Sussex were left kicking their heels for the third day running at the Oval today.
After two washouts, hopes were high that the first division leaders could finally start their crucial Championship match against Surrey.
But after three inspections, the umpires abandoned play at 1.45pm after more heavy rain left puddles on the outfield.
There is now the prospect of a one-innings match for 14 points tomorrow, providing the weather relents.
