Albion lost 2-0 at Watford on the opening day of the Premier League season but how did they perform?

Andy Naylor and Brian Owen give their verdicts.

MATHEW RYAN 7: Kept his side on terms with a pair of sharp saves from close range before conceding an absolute cracker.

BRUNO 6: Is is too easy to blame the defeat on his absence? Probably. But he was settling in when injury struck.

SHANE DUFFY 6 Not a particularly poor performance by any means but he can be more commanding then this.

LEWIS DUNK 7: Made a couple of important interventions at 0-0 and was the one Albion defender who asserted a decent amount of authority.

BERNARDO 5: A really tough debut both on the left, where Gray got behind him, and then right, especially on the second goal.

The Argus: DALE STEPHENS 6: Did most of his best work in deep areas, tackling and blocking. Close to a rare goal with first half volley.

DAVY PROPPER 6: Mainly diligent defensive work for the Dutchman as Albion struggled to make an impact in more advanced areas.

ANTHONY KNOCKAERT 5: Gave the ball away cheaply on a few occasions and did not cover himself in glory defensively for Watford's second.

SOLLY MARCH 5: Carried the ball well at times in the first half, but end product was poor. No surprise when Jahanbakhsh replaced him.

PASCAL GROSS 5: Subdued start for last season's influential No.10. Rarely involved and replaced soon after Watford doubled their lead.

GLENN MURRAY 6: Not much service for him to feed on and generally well shackled by Cathcart and Kabasele.

Subs: GAETAN BONG 6: Steady in customary left-back role after Bruno's injury.

YVES BISSOUMA 7: Sparked Albion into late life, including a decent effort.

JAHANBAKHSH 6: No real opportunity to make a difference on 25th birthday.
