Martin Montoya could be in for quite a reunion on his Premier League debut.

Even if his old mate Alexis Sanchez does not make it.

According to reports, Sanchez did not travel with United when they headed south yesterday.

Albion’s new right-back will still be up against two former colleagues from the Spanish national squad if, as expected, he makes his debut against United in place of the injured Bruno.

Montoya rubbed shoulders with David De Gea and Juan Mata with La Roja, as well Ander Herrera, who looks set to miss out today.

Then there is Andreas Pereira, the young Brazilian who started the season in United’s midfield against Leicester last Friday.

Pereira was in Valencia’s midfield last term while colleague Montoya headed towards the end of his time in LaLiga Santander.

Sanchez was a bright and cheerful presence around La Masia as Barcelona’s young players did their bit during the week.

Montoya told The Argus: “What a game to start with, if I’m selected.

“I had two or three years with Alexis. He is one for the best forwards in Europe.

“I know him very well because in those days he used to spend a lot of time with the younger players.

“He was young as well. He’s two years older than me and he’d often be with the development players.”

Montoya has been briefed by Bruno as to what to expect and has been advised the physical aspect could be his biggest challenge in England.

He said: “I didn’t know Bruno but I’ve met him here and he’s a very good person. He’s helping a lot in all aspects.

“The same as Andone, who I know from Deportivo, Mat (Ryan), Tomer (Hemed) as well, who speaks good Spanish.

“I’m adapting well and they are helping me a lot.

“The only one I knew personally before was Mat, who I was with for six months.”

He added: “The Premier League is still a more physical and a faster league.

“The Spanish League is more about having the ball.

“But I’m adapting and the manager here still lets us play out from the back.

“The philosophy seems to be to come out from the back passing the ball. That suits me.”
