Albion boss Chris Hughton is proud of the performance that saw off Manchester United for the second time in three months at the Amex.
The Seagulls bounced back from a disappointing defeat at Watford on the opening day to beat United 3-2 after sealing safety against Jose Mourinho's men with a 1-0 win in May.
Hughton said: "The most important thing is three points, particularly when you lose your first game and are going up to Liverpool next game.
"But I am very proud of the performance, particularly the reaction from last week, and the knowledge that with the quality United have got, if you allow them to play their game they can hurt you.
"I thought both sides of our game were really good."
Goals by Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy's first in the Premier League (below right) and Pascal Gross from the penalty spot followed the loss of stand-in skipper Lewis Dunk with a right ankle injury which left him watching the second half from the tunnel on crutches, with his leg encased in a protective boot.
Romely Lukaku halved United's arrears in the first half but the result flattered them, Paul Pogba's stoppage time penalty proving too little too late.
Mourinho said: "We were punished by the mistakes we made. For me that's the story of the game. We made incredible mistakes in some crucial moments. Mistakes that killed us.
"Especially that third goal (penalty, below) - we expected to come at 2-1 with positivity - then the third goal killed us off in the second half. Our second goal came too late.
Pogba admitted: "They had more hunger than us. I put myself first, that my attitude wasn't right enough. We made mistakes we shouldn't make. We tried to push and push, we kept trying, but it was a bit too late."
