Albion boss Chris Hughton has urged his players to maintain the intensity that saw off Manchester United.

The Seagulls go to Liverpool on Saturday boosted by Sunday's 3-2 win against United at the Amex after losing in disappointing fashion at Watford on the opening day.

Jose Mourinho's side were beaten by a high tempo display.

Hughton said: "We've got to make sure it's not a home game against Manchester United that makes you do it.

"Maybe - and I know the feelings of players and I've been there before sometimes - it's not so difficult to raise your game for those type of games.

"So we've got to make sure it's more games than not but the tempo of our game was very good.

"Even if we hadn't got a result I would have been really delighted with the way we played.

"I'd like to think it allows the players to go into the (Liverpool) game with a bit more confidence. You can't take away from the fact they don't come any more difficult away at Liverpool, not only with the team they've got but the recruitment in the summer.

"You hope you can play to some level like we did and you can't come away from there with anything without getting a bit of luck as well."

Hughton restricted the changes to two after the Watford defeat, Gaetan Bong (below right) replacing Brazilian Bernardo at left-back and Martin Montoya making his debut at right-back for injured captain Bruno.

The Argus: Hughton told The Argus: "I think when you are the level of club that we are and only our second season in this division, we are going to have bad days.

"Watford wasn't the only bad day we've had. Quite a few I could have told you about last season.

"It's the levels. You are up against better players and you can't always have your day.

"There has to be that right balance between sticking with the players that you know and also the level of competition we've got now is greater and will be greater this season.

"If that means players have got to work as hard to stay in the team then that will be something that is beneficial for us."
