Sussex gained a first innings advantage of 51 runs over Derbyshire on the third morning of their Specsavers County Championship Division Two match at Hove.
Derbyshire resumed on 315-5, still 125 runs adrift. But Sussex took the new ball after just three overs and after a quick double breakthrough had hopes of an even bigger lead.
Ollie Robinson took the first wicket in the ninth over of the day when Matt Critchley chopped on for just eight and in the bowler’s following over the other overnight batsman, Alex Hughes, edged to Phil Salt at third slip.
Derbyshire’s eighth wicket pair of Daryn Smit and Tony Palladino then put on 41 before David Wiese wrapped up the innings with two deliveries.
Palladino was caught by the solitary slip, Chris Jordan, and Lockie Ferguson was caught behind first ball.
With Ravi Rampaul unable to bat, Derbyshire were all out for 389.
Sussex reached lunch on 25-0 from five overs.
