Premier League clubs will put their squads to full use if it ensures they see out the season.

Top-flight outfits are determined all issues in the 2019-20 campaign will be settled on the pitch.

That means being prepared to use all players, including some under-23s if necessary.

Clubs are aware injuries, fatigue or even positive Covid cases could test playing resources when action resumes this month.

Albion make no secret of the fact they are among the clubs who would oppose relegation if the fixtures were not completed.

But chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber says every effort will be made to ensure it does not come to that.

He said: “We’ve had some general discussions on that and I think it’s one of those situations where we’re all going to be expected to use the full extent of our squad.

“There are some under-23 players that are part of that and some under-23 players that are on standby to be part of that.

“We’ve got a very condensed period of time to bring the league to a sporting conclusion on the field.

“The one thing that came out of the last meeting is that we would all, by far, rather finish the season on the field and not have to worry about what might happen if we can’t finish it on the field.

“Clearly, making the full use of our squads, getting through the fixture list, playing out the games, getting a sporting outcome is what we’re totally focused on.”

Graham Potter made effective use of his squad during the hectic period in December and early January.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh was one of the chief beneficiaries as he opened his goal account for the club after a surprise call-up.

Albion have been consistent in their belief that no team should go down if the season ends early.

But Barber would be happy to see Liverpool crowned as champions or European paces attributed.

He said: “It is quite different to award titles and Champions League places, which are only positive and beneficial, than relegating teams where the financial consequences could be catastrophic and jobs could be lost. The two are very, very different.

“If we were faced with that situation, and it is very much a matter for the league and ultimately the shareholders to determine, not for me, you would have to look at it completely in the round.”
