Luke Wright top-scored for Sussex, then said David Wiese was man of the match in the win over Hampshire.

Wright made 83 and Wiese a very rapid 41 to take Sharks to 159-5 and a 13-run win.

They shared a stand of 74 when the Sussex innings seemed to be faltering.

Skipper Wright said: “For me, David Wiese was the man of the match. He changed the game, no one else struck the ball like him on that wicket.

“For me that was perfect as it allowed me to anchor the innings and try and go at the end. He is an unbelievable player and always does it when we need him.

“My last game before this season was in November but I am lucky I’m not a person who hits lots of balls, I’m more feely with my batting.

“It is nice to come in and contribute, that is what I need to do as captain.”

Chris Jordan returned to the Sussex side after being released from the England white-ball squad bubble based at the Ageas Bowl.

He was able to give team mates some insight into likely conditions.

Sussex worked hard to keep the ball dry as they bowled in the damp of the evening.

Wright said: “It was an important win after the break to win here, especially as the conditions were very much against us."
