Crawley 4 Rushden 1.

In-form striker Jamie Cook insists he is happy to keep on scoring goals for Crawley amid growing interest for his services from other clubs.

Cook scored a perfect' hat-trick against his former club as Reds tore apart hapless Rushden and Diamonds at Broadfield Stadium.

The 28-year-old netted with both feet and his head to take his recent scoring streak to eight goals in the last four league games.

His prolific form makes him one of the hottest properties in the Blue Square premier division and the number of scouts watching him is reportedly increasing with every game.

Former Crawley hitman Guy Madjo fulfilled his dream of becoming a League player by sealing a transfer to Shrewsbury ten days ago and netted for his new club at the weekend.

It would be no surprise if Cook went the same way as managers all over the country looking for bargains during the January sales.

But Cook says he is fully focussed on helping Reds maintain their encouraging run of form.

He said: "I'm enjoying myself. It is going well on the pitch at the moment and that's the main thing.

"That is all I'm concentrating on, training and playing well and whatever happens, happens.

"I'm not aware of any interest and if I was I wouldn't think about it anyway, I would just get on with my game. I don't think about it."

Assistant boss Paul Raynor said: "At this level, when he plays like that, with his pace, his quality and his trickery, he is as good as anyone.

"When he gets sloppy and tries to overdo things, his performance levels drop and that is why he is at this level.

"He is a laid-back character and if you can get him riled up and making intelligent runs he is frightening to play against.

"We cannot stop people making an approach for him and we are not going to tell Jamie Cook not to try as hard because we might have to sell him.

"We are trying to improve our players and if we do it sufficiently that people start taking notice and making bids then we will deal with it if and when it happens."

Cook paid tribute to the role his strike partner, Jon-Paul Pittman, played in his latest goal rush.

Pittman set up two of his strikes and started the scoring after ten minutes with a neat volley from Glenn Wilson's flicked header.

Cook said: "I thought JP was absolutely brilliant. He set up two of the goals brilliantly so I have others to thank really, I was just in the right place at the right time.

"Everyone played really well and we could have scored even more goals. It was one of our better performances this season."

Raynor said: "With the pace and power of Cook and Pittman, they were unplayable and that is not overstating it. We were scoring at will and when they play like that they are as good as anything in this division."

Cook's first goal came just before the half hour thanks to a goalkeeping blunder by Paul Bastock. The experienced stopper dropped a deep cross from Mustapha Carayol straight to the feet of the Reds hitman and he slotted the ball in from six yards.

Cook added the crucial third which effectively put the game beyond the under-par visitors three minutes later with a free header from Pittman's cross.

He claimed the matchball on 63 minutes following some more good work by Pittman.

The pacey frontman raced clear down the right and rolled the ball into the path of the onrushing Cook, who showed plenty of composure to round the keeper and squeeze home from a close angle.

Rushden pulled one back four minutes from time when Chris Hope scored with a header from a corner but that was the only blot on an otherwise perfect display for Cook and co.

Raynor raved: "I have not been at Crawley a long time but if there has been a better first half at the club I will be very surprised.

"Rushden smashed Exeter 3-0 last week and the people we had watching said how good they were and that if we stood off them they would cause us problems.

"The tempo of our performance in closing them down was magnificent, we steamrollered them."
