Micky Adams has hailed his return as Albion manager as the easiest decision of his career.
The man who steered the Seagulls to the League Two title seven years ago and left them as promotion contenders in League One had no hesitation in returning when the call came from chairman Dick Knight.
"I thought it was a great honour when I got the job the first time but to be offered the chance to come back for a second time is fantastic," Adams said. "I always hoped I would come back at some stage and I cannot tell you how excited I am.
"I've had good days since I've been away and bad days . I look back at my days with Brighton with fantastic affection and sometimes think what did I leave for but you make decisions and move on. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong.
"I have been offered four jobs since I've been out of work but it was an easy decision to come back, probably the easiest one I've had to make in my career. It's a club I hold in great esteem and I cannot wait to get started."
Adams has been scouting part-time for Stoke since quitting Colchester as assistant manager in January after spells in charge at Coventry and Leicester. The father-of-two wanted Dean Wilkins as Academy coach at Coventry and he is hoping the man he is replacing as Albion boss accepts the club's offer of reverting back to first team coach.
"Part of my discussions with Dick was that Dean has done a fantastic job and anyone looking in from the outside would think that," Adams said.
"I am not privy to all that has gone on but what I do know is that Dean is a fantastic coach and I would like him to stay. I mean that sincerely."
Adams is ready for the task of trying to guide Albion back into the Championship in time for the club's move to their new stadium at Falmer in August 2010.
"Brighton managed to reach the Championship not so long ago and I laid the foundations for that," he said.
"I know the expectancy will rise now and I could have left it and not fanied it but that has never been me.
"The challenge is to get the club into the Championship in the next two years leading up to Falmer and it's a challenge I am going to take on board."
The rest of Albion's backroom staff remains unchanged under Adams' command. Knight said: "We are expanding the managerial team with a very experienced person at the top of it.
"The fact is we are not firing Dean - we are asking him to stay. This is a very considered decision and unanimous decision by the Board.
"We need to make this move now to ensure the club moves forward on the playing side at the same pace as it does off the pitch in terms of the stadium development. We think with Micky and Dean together that is a helluva management team."
What do you think about Adams return?

How often does the appointment of a manager second time around work? Remember Mullery? Anyway, it's great to have Micky back but I feel Deano can and should feel more than a little hard done by as he had really pulled the rabbit out of the hat for us this season. Nonetheless, they ought to make a fantastic double act and DW will be all the better for the experience but how long before he gets poached by another club in need of a bright young prospect at the helm?

The other idiot DW will still be in a job come next season, and probably the next few after that. It's another "Kerry Mayo" case, like a loyal old dog you don't want to put him down for sentimental reasons. Doug Loft won't get played, probably loaned out for a bit of experience but I can't see him featuring at all. I would like to know who had the final say with releasing the players that went and how long Mickey has been on the cards for?!

Come on then all you pundits!
Questions for you - do you think any of the released players will get a second chance or do you think they are better off looking ahead?
What will happen to the other idiot DW?
Another big question, where does that leave Doug Loft - the bench or worse?
Interesting developments for all but I feel for Sonny Sam and Paul.
Your thoughts???

Chris wrote:Agreed. Players were complaining openly about Wilkins lack of man management.
I understand the decision that's been made, it was evident Wilkins is not the best man manager with the senior players and perhaps that has been his downfall. Hopefully Micky can pick up from where he left off. My guess is that the board are ready to inject a huge amount of cash into the playing budget and want a manager who knows where and how to spend it. My thought go out to the released players, its now a double blow to them as there is now a question mark over who wielded the axe. New team to build, new shirts, new season, new manager - you can say a lot of things about the Albion but 'dull' is never a word you can use!

If the information is correct about Adam Virgo coming back then I\'m not so sure I\'m happy about that. I mean Mickey Adams is one thing, but was Virgo even that influential when he was here last time? And has he improved as a player?
