Michael Standing's second-half penalty earned Lewes a 2-1 win away to Team Bath in the FA Trophy.

The Rooks had to come from behind to claim a place in Monday's second round draw.

They were short on numbers with Anthony Barness dropping out due to illness, joining Aswad Thomas, Sam Gargan, Tom Graves, Steve Elliott and Ollie Rowland on the list of players unavailable.

The Blue Square south hosts went ahead on 13 minutes but Danny Cullip's first goal for Lewes made it all square at half-time and Standing scored 13 minutes from time to send Lewes through.

The match went ahead after a 10am pitch inspection but it was a disjointed first half at Twerton Park.

Lewes, who had arrived just 45 minutes before kick-off due to coach problems, struggled to settle early on.

The hosts made all the running in the opening stages and Rikki Banks saved well from Greg Lake on three minutes with Matt Cooper screwing the rebound wide of the target.

On eight minutes Banks got down well at the feet of Shaun Benison after Mike Perrott's pass had split the defence.

It was no surprise when Team Bath broke the deadlock following a corner on 13 minutes. Matt Lock swung the ball over from the right, former Crawley player Sami El-Abd nodded back across goal and Dean Smith headed home into the corner.

Standing threatened an equaliser on 20 minutes with a 20-yard strike which goalkeeper Darren Chitty turned around the near post for a corner.

But it could have been 2-0 almost immediately when Takumi Ake whipped the ball across the face of goal and Perrott fired wide at the back post.

Lewes made the most of that reprieve when they levelled in the 25th minute when Standing delivered a corner from the right and Cullip swept the ball home from eight yards.

The goal lifted the Rooks but they still had to be wary of the threat from Team Bath and Cooper had a couple of openings in the closing stages of the half which he should have done better with.

There was little to excite anyone in a crowd of 206 in the early stages of the second half. Lewes looked comfortable but were unable to trouble the home defence going forward.

Manager Kevin Keehan tried to shake things up just past the hour mark by throwing on Stefan Cox for David Wheeler with Standing switching to the right of midfield.

Within a couple of minutes Standing broke forward, linking with Rivers, before seeing his goalbound shot deflected wide for a corner.

Chances were still at a premium but Lewes went ahead from the penalty spot 13 minutes from time. Cox broke down the left and his cross struck the hand of Team Bath skipper Gary Warren, allowing Standing to score his fourth of the season from the spot.

The hosts had their own appeals for a handball in the penalty area turned away six minutes from time and Lewes immediately countered with Fenelon firing into the side-netting.

Lewes hearts were in mouths three minutes from time when Shaun Benison's shot came back off the base of Banks' left-hand post.

The game was not a classic but Lewes were worthy winners after a strong second-half showing.
