Jake Wright insists he can achieve his ambitions of playing League football again with Crawley.

Reds have already turned down a bid from a League Two club during the transfer window for the highly-rated defender.

And boss Steve Evans expects further interest in the 22-year-old, whom he signed on a free transfer last summer, before the window shuts.

Wright said: “I know as much as everyone else about interest from League clubs.

“I am ambitious to play in the Football League again. I made one appearance for Bradford and playing back at that level is where I want to be but hopefully that will be with Crawley.

“I’m really happy at Crawley. I like the other lads and the staff and living down here. The only drawback is that my family are back home in Yorkshire but they come down every other weekend so it’s not too bad.”

Reds conceded only their third goal in their last seven Blue Square premier games in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Mansfield.

That is due in no small measure to the partnership Wright has formed with ex-Halifax team-mate Adam Quinn while Wright has been Crawley’s most consistent player this season.

“I’ve been really pleased with my own form this season and I’m really enjoying my football,” he added.

“We feel that if we keep clean sheets we’re going to win most games because we always look like getting a goal.”

Evans confirmed that Scottish Premier League club Inverness Caley are monitoring one of his players and he has turned down an approach from Bournemouth to take veteran striker Steve Fletcher back to Dean Court.

Another of Crawley’s ex-Halifax contingent - midfielder Danny Forrest - is available after suspension for tonight’s Setanta Shield fourth round tie against Chelmsford City (7.45) but Reds are still without the injured Chris Giles, Jon Shaw, Lewis Killeen, Jamie Cook and Isaiah Rankin.
