Marc Pullan has given Eastbourne Borough a massive boost by revealing he wants to stay at Priory Lane.

The veteran defender has ended speculation over his future by confirming he is ready to commit himself to another season in Blue Square premier.

Pullan turned down the chance to play in non-league’s top-flight when he helped Crawley to promotion in 2004 because of the extra demands it entailed.

The 35-year-old was determined not to pass up the opportunity for a second time with Borough but admitted he would review the situation at the end of the campaign.

Despite a gruelling season which has seen Borough travel a massive 9,000-plus miles, Pullan is ready to sign up for more of the same.

He said: “The amount of travelling was quite hard before Christmas when we had a lot of games a long way away but since then it doesn’t seem to have been so bad.

“It’s not that different to the Dr Martens or Conference south except that trips are five hours rather than three hours.

“To be honest I quite like it when we stay away the night before a game because it means I get a lie in which is a rarity when I’m at home!

“I enjoy being part of the club, I get on well with the other players and I want to play at the highest level possible so there is no reason for me to leave.

“It all depends whether the club wants to keep me but I am more than prepared to give it another go.”

Despite his age, there is little chance Garry Wilson will dispense with the services of Pullan who is one of the leading contenders to be named player of the season at Priory Lane.

He has only missed two league games all season and goes into tomorrow’s game at York City having made more appearances (50) than anyone else at the club.

Pullan accepts there could be big changes at Priory Lane in the summer as Wilson prepares for the notoriously difficult second season but hopes he is part of the manager’s plans.

The former Worthing centre-back added: “Garry and Nick (Greenwood, assistant manager) are quite laid back when it comes to sorting out contracts and tend to leave it until the end of the season.

“Last season the majority of the squad were kept on because we had won promotion and deserved a chance but this season it could be different.

“The club wants to progress so there could be a number to go. Will they want to keep me when I am going to be 36 next season? I could be out of the door although I don’t think I will be.

“There are a number of other players who are 33 or 34 now where age is an issue while you’ve got to ask whether some of the young lads can improve enough to take the club forward.”

Striker Andy Atkin is unlikely to be fit for the trip to the KitKat Crescent for what is a crucial game for York.

A run of seven games without a win since booking their place in the FA Trophy final has left them third from bottom of the table, a point adrift of safety.

Skipper Daniel Parslow said: “The table doesn’t lie. We’re in a horrible position and the players feel the same as the fans.

“At the minute Wembley is right at the back of our minds. We need to get ourselves out of this mess that we’re in.”
