Dixon leaves Albion

Albion have parted company with reserve team striker Jonny Dixon.

The former Aldershot player, who joined the squad for fitness assessments when they reported back for training on Tuesday, has reached a financial settlement with the Seagulls and is free to look for a new club.

Dixon started just two games in his season and a half at Withdean.

Right decision for all parties one would think as he clearly wasn't going to make the breakthrough. Good luck to the lad.

Now what happens with the likes of McLeod and Hawkins and maybe Livermore who was packed off on loan when we were desperate? Do they go or can they still contribute something?

McLeod in particular never looked fit and you have to wonder what sort of shape he is in after the summer break?

In a word NO! particularly Hawkins & McLeod. If Livermore could show the form he had when at Millwall maybe - but we've not seen anything like that I'm afraid, so probably no!

did i not say other day he was going to be paid off? next is elabd, and virgo, rs is not convinced by either.

Yes Mark, you did tell us that. You also said that Adrian Heath was coming to the club as coach.......

El Abd is a good squad player due to the fact he can play anywhere. Good news on Dixon, good luck to the lad. McLeod possibly deserves a chance again by the skin of his teeth. Hawkins is surplus to requirements. 2 strikers and 2 midfielders still needed , ideally at a better quality to those players we've already brought in. This is not a moan either as they look solid enough but to be top 8 we are going to need a lot more than what we have. Bloom needs to spend and in Slade I trust

Hopefully Dixon will not be the only contracted player to go - McLeod, Hawkins, El-Abd and Livermore too please. Plus dinosaur White and comedian Booker.

I think these comments are a bit harsh on El Abd. He is not the greatest, we all know that but he has put a lot of decent performances for us and is totally committed. Give the bloke a break!

Well said andsyd of Hove. El Abd and Virgo might not be 'light touchers' of the ball, but they have been good squad players. As for Dixon, well, need we say anything! I hope he manages to get a place somewhere else, however I can't see it being a league club.
Good decision by R.S. and obviously backed by Tony Bloom.

good squad players, good utility players, we all heard that when fraser, loft and co were released, how is elabd going to get a game? good luck to sam gargan, at least he has the balls to go out and get a trial at barnet next week.. as for dixon he came back over a stone since end of season.. however IF MCLOED stays fit, he is back after losing 7lb..

Reference Virgo, he is currently on £8k per week, half paid for by Celtic and has it written into his contract that if fit he has to play. So no way can Bton offload him, this is fact. Why on earth was Dixon ever bought in the first place.

I can agree with Dixon going and hopefully followed by Hawkins but i do not agree over Virgo as i think we are now seeing the best of him as we did tail end of last season as he was played in his best position CB.

I can't believe people are slagging virgo off.
he was played out of position by adams for most of the season. then when he was finally played in position by slade for a run off games he was one of the vital players that kept us up. especially in the game at bristol rovers him and hart were amazing.

Its easy on this site to moan about players , but lay off Virgo and give him a chance . Through no fault of his own he has been played out of position for most of last season, and only came back to his best when played at CB. For example all of us slagging off Gary Hart were certainly impressed by his performances at the tail end of the last season , simply because he was played at his best position. So at least be fair to the players you slag off , when they are playing crap but are in their positions fair enough , but give them a chance when not. Now hopefully this problem will not arise as RS has bought players in for their rightful positions , which is a long time since we have been able to do that.

I agree totally about Virgo. When played in his proper position at CB he puts in a solid performance. Leave him at CB and give him a run of games there.El Abd is a good player to have as a squad member. Play him anywhere as and when required and leave Virgo at CB.( Can't believe Celtic had him on their books as a Centre Forward )

sorry but what is a squad player? seems some fans just dont get it! elabd is only here because he has a year left on contract, his worth as a utility player is over as we now have 7 subs from this season, think its best he moves on, as a betting man, not sure who will play less this season? elabd or kuipers, add cox, i reckon 20 games between the three.

Are you offering that up as a spread bet Mark. I'll take you up on it. Shall we say £5 per appearance, above or below the 20?

What miss that fat clown at the club, just didn't have any fight in him to make the grade, just happy to plod along in the reserves and spend his silly wages on booze at the weekends, god did he rate himself on a night up town, arrogant muppet!! As for Virgo, don't think he'll be first choice in any position, and El-Abd won't get much of a look in, RS is building a team of footballers now, and we'll be right in the mix, just needs 3-4 more quality signings like he's made and we'll be there or thereabouts!!

Yes. ANd fair play to him - I'd 'rate myself' if I'd managed that, too!

Virgo played a key role for us staying up. Agree that he should be given a run at centre-back and as i said before the interesting one is Elphick for me who I think is most likely to be dropped. I agree with all the comments about el-abd. Yes he isn't good enough and yes he worked his arse off for us despite being a forest fan.He needs to go if we're going to be ambitious but he deserves credit for his work ethic.
