Sussex bowlers run riot

Sussex raced to their first Second XI Championship win of the season by thrashing Northamptonshire by 242 runs at Hove today.

The visitors, set 352 to win in 75 overs, were routed for 109 with pace bowler Pepler Sandri taking 3-31.

Australian trialist Allan Wise claimed 2-14 and spinners Ollie Rayner and Tom Smith had 2-9 and 2-1 respectively.

Left-armer Wise, who is 6ft 7in tall, finished with three wickets in the match on his debut.

Steve Crook tóp-scored with 34 in a dismal Northants innings in which none of the other batsmen passed 20.

Luke Wells, teenage son of former Sussex captain Alan Wells, hit an unbeaten 84 as the hosts, 186-3 overnight, declared on 269-4.

Wells resumed on 32 but his fourth-wicket partner Joe Gatting was unable to push on as he fell first ball of the day without addition to his 103.

Scores: Sussex 383-7 dec and 269-4 dec, Northants 301-2 dec and 109.
