Crawley boss Steve Evans is expecting the most competitive Conference ever after the fixture list handed his side a tough start to the new campaign.

Reds go to Mansfield, one of the sides expected to challenge for the title this season and also face promotion hopefuls Wrexham and Cambridge in the first 11 days.

Evans said: “There could be six or seven teams who break away rather like the big four in the Premier League.

“It will make it harder to finish as high as we did last year or even higher. Some of our board would be delighted if we finished in the top ten but (assistant manager) Paul Rayner and I have a different objective.”

Reds follow their trip to Field Mill, where they lost 1-0 last season, with successive home games against Forest Green Rovers and Wrexham.
