Eastbourne Borough face a difficult start in their second season in Blue Square premier.

Borough travel to Wrexham on the opening day of the campaign before welcoming ambitious AFC Wimbledon to Priory Lane three days later.

The Racecourse Ground does not hold happy memories for Garry Wilson’s men after Darren Baker was sent off in a 5-0 defeat, their worst of the season, in December.

Greenwood said: “Wrexham away is one of the games you look out for so to have them on the opening day is exciting for everybody.

“Last year we were a bit apprehensive when the fixtures came out and didn’t know exactley what to expect but now we are that bit more experienced and will look forward to these challenges.

“It will be tough but there are no easy games in this division. We will be under no pressure to perform going there and hopefully we will do better than last time.

“Like last season our aim will be to get results in what we would identify as winnable games and anything else is a bonus.”

Borough can also look forward to a bumper Christmas period despite the absence of traditional festive rivals Lewes.

Crawley will be the opponents on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day with the visit of Luton Town sandwiched between the two Sussex derbies on December 28.

Meanwhile, Borough are poised to complete their sixth signing of the summer by bringing in another striker and are also monitoring the progress of former Lewes defender Sam Fisk.

Greenwood added: “We’ve been talking to two players. One deal is nearing completion and we hope the paperwork will be done in the next couple of days.

“We are still in talks with another player (a wide midfielder) but we’ll have to wait and see if that one comes off.

“Sam is training with us and ticks a lot of the boxes for the type of player we want at the club. He is a good young, local player who did very well for Lewes last season so it makes sense to take a look at him.”

Fisk’s former club start life in Blue Square south with a home game against another relegated club Weymouth with Dover the opponents on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
