Lewes have added former Albion duo Dan Beck and Dan Royce to their squad ahead of the new season.

Manager Steve Ibbitson has also confirmed 13 other players have completed signing-on forms ahead of the new Blue Square south campaign.

Beck and Joyce join fellow new faces Scott Kirkwood, Scott Chamberlain, Sam Crabb and Williams Peauroux.

Forward Beck, 25, made his Albion League debt as a substitute away to Brentford in October 2003 but was released a year later without appearing for the first-team again.

Since then he has played for a number of Sussex clubs including Eastbourne Borough, Burgess Hill and two spells at Bognor, where he finished last season.

Winger Royce, 19, was released by Albion at the end of last season after one year as a full-time professional having progressed from the youth ranks.

Ibbitson said: “We like to play with wingers. We think playing with widemen is an effective way to play and one that the crowd likes to see.

“We have David Wheeler who is an exciting young talent and we feel Dan Royce is similarly exciting. We also have Ryan Storrie who is a very direct and aggressive wide player.

“We also have a couple of under-18s in Ross Sutton and Matt Whitehead who play wide. It is an important area for us and we see Dan Royce as an important part of the jigsaw.

“The biggest problem last year was the lack of a front player which is where Dan Beck will help us.

“We knew we had to do something about it although there are not that many good forwards around.

“We would like the alternative of a big player who someone can play off but with Dan and Sam Crabb we have two quick players who have worked well together in training.”

Lewes are still waiting on news from HM Customs and Excise as to whether they will be allowed to repay a tax debt in staged repayments. In that respect a cloud still hangs over the club but the news that so many players have signed registration forms for the new season will cheer fans.

The list includes Danny Cullip, Rikki Banks, Anthony Barness, Chris Breach, Wheeler, Chamberlain, Peauroux, Kirkwood, Crabb, Storrie, Fred Foreman, Jack Walder and Ryan Timms.

There had been doubts about Breach and Joe Keehan, who is not on that list, but Ibbitson said: “Chris Breach has had other offers but we are the only club he has been training with. He has worked really hard in training.

“Joe has been training with us but is away on family business at the moment. However, we have no reason to believe Joe won’t sign.”

Ibbitson expects Keehan to play when Lewes kick-off their pre-season campaign at home to Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday.
