Matt Crabb insists Eastbourne Borough need to take collective responsibility in front of goal.

Borough’s decent start to the campaign took a jolt last weekend when late goals against Salisbury and Ebbsfleet cost them valuable points.

Garry Wilson’s men were leading 1-0 at Salisbury until the 94th minute and were holding on with ten men at home to Ebbsfleet until a 95th-minute strike condemned them to a 2-1 defeat.

In fairness, Borough showed plenty of character after goalkeeper Danny Knowles was sent off so will go into tomorrow’s game at Kidderminster in a positive frame of mind.

But Crabb is also aware the match could have been out of sight on Monday long before half-time.

The hosts had three decent chances with the game goalless and winger Crabb says it is something they need to improve upon.

He said: “The second half (on Monday) was always going to be hard work, especially when you are down to ten men in the heat.

“It was a shame we couldn’t stay with 11 men because we were creating a lot of chances in the first half.

“It was something we mentioned in the changing rooms after the game that we have got to start taking our chances.

“It was like that against Salisbury as well. It is not that we are not creating chances, we just need to start putting them away. That is not blaming the strikers, it is happening to quite a few of us.

“If we could have turned those chances into goals Monday’s game would have been over and done with before the sending off. But we will stay positive, it is a long season.”

Crabb was on target in the home fixture with Kidderminster last season and is expecting a tough game tomorrow.

He said: “We know all about Kidderminster, they are a decent side, especially at home.

“Last year we went there and they beat us with ten men and I feel they were the best team we played last season.

“We know we have to go there and do something positive which I fully expect us do.”

Crabb was joined in the starting line-up on Monday by younger brother Nathan while the third Crabb sibling, Sam, is starting to make an impression in his first season with Blue Square south side Lewes.

It is rare to see three brothers doing so well at this level and Matt, as the oldest, is proud of his family.

He said: “Nathan came on last Saturday and did really well. Again on Monday he did really well, not only getting forward but helping out Ben Austin with their wide man because we knew he was one of their danger men.

“Sam is also doing well. Mum goes over there on a Saturday if we are not at home. She said they didn’t play well last Saturday but apart from that by the sound of things they haven’t done too badly.

“I speak to Sam on a regular basis, obviously. He has got a couple of goals already and he is happy to be playing at a decent level.”

Nathan has a good chance of starting again at Kidderminster tomorrow as Borough have a number of injury concerns going into the game.

Skipper Paul Armstrong (bruised hip), Marc Pullan (thigh), Matt Smart (ankle) and Neil Jenkins (hamstring) are all doubts while Knowles serves a one-game ban after his red card on Monday.

Michael Jordan will replace Knowles with goalkeeping coach Dean Lightwood providing cover on the bench. Dan Smith could come back into contention while squad players Ross Treleaven and Matt Hurley may also feature.

Coach Nick Greenwood said: “All the injured players are having treatment. We are optimistic that one or two will make it but I think there are too many for everyone to declared themselves fit.”
