Marc Pullan admits his luck may have finally run out after a remarkable run at the heart of the Eastbourne Borough defence.

The 35-year-old has not missed a Blue Square premier match since flu ruled him out of the clash with Northwich Victoria in November but is a major doubt for tonight’s trip to Histon.

The former Crawley centre-back faces a fitness test on a tendon problem but fears his record of 42 consecutive games is likely to come to an end.

Pullan said: “I probably could play but the danger is I will do more damage.

“I’ve been playing on it for a few weeks now but it is getting progressively worse so I could do with a couple of weeks’ rest to get it right.

“Last season I would probably have just played on because we didn’t have too many options at the back but now Bakes (Darren Baker) can come in and do just as good a job, if not better, than me.

“I’m not really bothered if my run comes to an end although it is handy to be able to bring it up when the boys wind me up about being the old man of the team.”

Pullan has been almost a permanent fixture in the Borough team since he signed from Worthing in January 2006.

The former England non-league international played more games than anyone at Priory Lane last season – 51 – and has clocked up 179 appearances in just three and a half years.

He won both the supporters’ and players’ player of the year awards in 2007 and again last season and despite his advancing years shows no signs of slowing down.

Pullan added: “I’ve always been lucky with injuries. I’ve never really broken anything and the worst thing that has happened to me was when I had a groin operation at the age of 16.

“My biggest problem is flu. Every season I seem to get it and it keeps me out for a game or two.

“Even when I was at Crawley I was always playing 40 or 50 games a season. Some people need a rest every now and again but I like to keep going and going.

“If you are playing well and enjoying it you don’t notice the number of games you are playing. To be honest when you get to my age you want to play as many games as you can because you can see the door closing on you.

“I don’t know when I will call it a day. I might have another season in me at this level and then might have to drop down to Conference south. I want to keep going as long as I can though because I’d rather be playing football than shopping with the missus on a Saturday!”

Pullan’s absence would mean a recall for Baker who has been on the bench for the last four games after losing his place to Gary Elphick.

Andy Atkin returns to the squad after a hamstring injury but skipper Paul Armstrong is still sidelined with a hip problem.

Histon boss Steve Fallon is expected to make wholesale changes after Saturday’s 4-0 defeat by AFC Wimbledon. Former Crawley striker Pierre Joseph Dubois could make his full debut while Adam Bygrave, Erkan Okray and Lanre Oyebanjo may all come into the team.
