Gus Poyet has emerged as the stand-out contender to be named Albion's new manager.
The Argus understands the former Tottenham No. 2 will be in place for Sunday's south coast derby at Southampton, when the Uruguyan celebrates his 42nd birthday.
Poyet impressed chairman Tony Bloom when he was interviewed yesterday.
Ex-Albion loan signing Steve Cotterill was also interviewed.
Poyet had an illustrious playing career as a midfielder for Chelsea, Spurs and his country.
He was Dennis Wise's second in command at both Swindon and Leeds and assistant manager to Juande Ramos at Spurs.
