Rushden boss Justin Edinburgh admitted his side targeted out-of-sorts Gavin Hoyte as they gave Albion an FA Cup scare.

Lee Tomlin gave the on-loan Arsenal defender such a tough time he was switched from right back to left as the Seagulls fought out a 3-2 win at Withdean.

Tomlin, who had already scored Rushden's first equaliser, followed him across and was involved in the second.

Edinburgh said: "We followed what they did because I thought he (Tomlin) was giving him (Hoyte) a torrid time. "Their full backs changed sides again at half-time so we did it again.

"I thought he had the beating of him all game."

The former Spurs defender felt his side scored two good goals but were lacking at the back.

He added: "I was disappointed with the way we conceded all three of the goals.

"It's unlike us. We have been on a good run of late and that has been down to defending well.

"I'm bitterly disappointed.

"We were five minutes away from getting the replay and extra revenue, which is important to the football club, and maybe progressing to the third round."
