Albion have signed someone a bit different with the latest return of Seb Carole.

That is the verdict of boss Gus Poyet, who has brought his former Leeds flyer back to Withdean on a rolling weekly contract.

In two previous stints in Sussex, Carole usually worked the right flank now the domain of Elliott Bennett.

However he was more often on the left when playing for a Leeds side managed by Dennis Wise with Poyet as his assistant.

The Seagulls boss said: “Seb’s a winger, not just right or left.

“People say he’s right-footed but he did a terrific job for us at Leeds on the left.

“We’ve been playing without a natural left-sided winger.

“People look at Dean Cox out there but I see him a bit more inside.

“I don’t think we have another player like Seb.

“People will compare him to Elliott but he’s a different type of player.

“Elliott is more direct, more about speed, more going past people with his speed.

“Seb is about checking in and out and dummies, taking players out of position with his skills.

“We don't have that player. That's why he is coming in.”

Poyet has not ruled out more activity this month as he looks to tweak his squad.

He added: “In January you are never surprised by things that happen.

“The squad should be no more than 25 players including goalkeepers. We've got 28 including Jake Wright, who is on loan, and (youngsters) Steve Cook and Steve Brinkhurst.

“But it's not just having 25. You need to get the right balance.”
