Loxwood went seven points clear in County League division two on a day of mixed emotions.
Manager Barry Hunter was delighted with a 1-0 win in their top-of-the-table game at home to Worthing United.
But the victory was tainted by a break-in which resulted in the players' wallets being stolen from the changing room during the first-half.
An extended half-time break was allowed while the Lox squad got on their phones to cancel credits and when they resumed they channelled their frustration in the right way to pinch the points with a goal from Istvan Gulyas.
Hunter said: “I was very impressed with how they handled things. They took out their anger on the pitch and I think we deserved to win.
“It was generally a tight game but we created the better chances.”
Gulyas netted on the hour-mark after turning superbly eight yards out in a crowded penalty area and Lox thought they had added a second through Damon Aston's stunning 25-yard volley but it was disallowed for an earlier shirt tug.
Hunter added: “We are only just over halfway so it is difficult to get carried away but we are confident about the way we are playing, we are in good habits, not conceding many and scoring goals. We have to keep it going.”
Rye United went fourth with a 2-0 win at home to Storrington, who were celebrating their 1,000th match. Duncan McArthur and Sam Cole, with an exquisite chip, soured the Swans' day.
Little Common lost ground after being pegged back by Dave Gaskin's 92nd-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Clymping. Billy Rayner got the hosts' other goal with Jared Lusted and Lewis Hole twice putting Common ahead.
Bottom side Midhurst and Easebourne beat fast-fading Southwick 3-0 with goals from Luke Sheldrick (two) and Sean Dummer.
East Preston came from behind to win 3-1 at Westfield thanks to Jehan Huet (two) and Kevin Clayton.
Liam Hunter and Gerald Manville scored for Oakwood as they came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Rustington despite having Dan Attwater sent off.
