Albion track Stoke keeper

Albion have enquired about taking on loan Stoke’s third choice goalkeeper Steve Simonsen.

But their interest in the former England under-21 international is likely to be thwarted by competition from Championship clubs.

The Seagulls want cover, as Michel Kuipers is out for the season with a broken finger.

Rookie Mitch Walker was on the bench as understudy to Peter Brezovan at Colchester on Monday.

Stoke are prepared to loan Simonsen out now that they are out of the FA Cup. Simonsen, a £3.3million buy from Everton six years ago, is behind Thomas Sorensen and recent signing Asmir Begovic from Portsmouth, who was FA Cup tied.

Meanwhile, Albion fans could get their first sight of Simonsen’s team-mate Diego Arismendi on Saturday.

The Seagulls hope to have the Uruguayan available for the home game against Swindon.

A thigh injury sustained in training ruled Arismendi out of the squad for Monday’s match at Colchester.

If he recovers, the defensive midfielder on loan from Stoke is likely to be on the bench.

Arismendi has not played a first team game since featuring in Stoke’s Carling Cup exit at Portsmouth at the end of October.

Manager Gus Poyet went on a scouting mission to Stadiummk last night with a dual purpose.

He watched centre-half James Tunnicliffe complete his month on loan to MK Dons with what turned out to be the winning goal in a 2-1 success against Saturday’s opponents Swindon.

Tunnicliffe headed MK Dons into a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute from Peter Leven’s corner and they held on for victory despite Danny Ward pulling a goal back for the Robins in the closing stages.

If Tunnicliffe has completed his month on loan now will he be available on Saturday against Swindon?

Perkino.....If that were the case, and he played AND scored against Swindon, would that be a record.
i.e. same player, scoring against the same opposition, but playing for two different clubs within 4 days?
Unlikely trivia, but someone will know.

That's happened before... John Forsyth scroed the winning goal against Bury in the 1977 FA cup semi-final for Arsenal, only to score the winning goal in a 2-1 victory sgainst Bury for Leeds 3 days later!

I knew there would be someone out there with their 'Boys Book of Football Stats'!
I don't know whether to feel pleased for you or not!
But I did pose the question.

Blimey! Aligardner10 was quick out of the traps there - like they'd been waiting for someone to ask the question since 1977.

Seriously though I think Tunni-baby could do with a bit more time out on loan if it brings him on a bit. Build still a bit 'crazy leg' Crouch-like methinks. We surely want him to play as much as we can so that he can contribute next year - can't see him getting a lot of games here.

Good Work!

interesting story i heard going around as to why Cox is never going to play for us again. Most players have respect for Poyet even if they have dropped down the pecking order. Super intelligent Cox decided to slag Poyet off for dropping him & told him Brighton are a S**t club anyway that he can do better. I guess Port Vale beckons for Cox

If it's true, then the guy is stupid to not try and gain knowledge and add elements to his game. He might not get that opportunity elsewhere. There are other clubs, like we used to be 'pre Poyet' where 'hoof it and run'football is the norm.
What do they say....

Quite agree Gee Jay, Cox has been short sighted in his comments if true of course. The fact he has hardly seen the light of day under Poyet seems to suggest something is wrong but Brighton are now in a position to drop players who are not team players which in itself is a good thing. If he thinks he can do well elsewhere fine but odd no one has come in for him on a loan deal!

i think cox has done it now, he lost the plot with adams, and adams backed down, this time gus is in charge, clearly you dont get two chances with him, on another matter, since the white and booker have gone, anyone else notice the injury list has almost non existant? no more double hernias? anyone who has a chance should read tony adams book, he talks of poor coaching causing injuries and the differnce a back 4 average age of 33 had no problems playing 2 games aweek under wenger

not really, i think cox has real quality, his ability is good, his "big potato" style is a laugh.. dean should look at his mate jake robinson, cant get in shrewsbury side, the grass is not always greener! but i accept your point, the youth squad is falling away, next year will be 5 years since a player came through, thats at div 3 level, what chance of one making the championship? thats another level..

To be honest though, Mark DOES have a point. The injury probs HAVE significantly diminished since Gus and Tanno's regime gas kicked in.

It makes perfect sense that the improved coaching would curb certain unnecessary twists, pulls and strains.
