Albion have enquired about taking on loan Stoke’s third choice goalkeeper Steve Simonsen.
But their interest in the former England under-21 international is likely to be thwarted by competition from Championship clubs.
The Seagulls want cover, as Michel Kuipers is out for the season with a broken finger.
Rookie Mitch Walker was on the bench as understudy to Peter Brezovan at Colchester on Monday.
Stoke are prepared to loan Simonsen out now that they are out of the FA Cup. Simonsen, a £3.3million buy from Everton six years ago, is behind Thomas Sorensen and recent signing Asmir Begovic from Portsmouth, who was FA Cup tied.
Meanwhile, Albion fans could get their first sight of Simonsen’s team-mate Diego Arismendi on Saturday.
The Seagulls hope to have the Uruguayan available for the home game against Swindon.
A thigh injury sustained in training ruled Arismendi out of the squad for Monday’s match at Colchester.
If he recovers, the defensive midfielder on loan from Stoke is likely to be on the bench.
Arismendi has not played a first team game since featuring in Stoke’s Carling Cup exit at Portsmouth at the end of October.
Manager Gus Poyet went on a scouting mission to Stadiummk last night with a dual purpose.
He watched centre-half James Tunnicliffe complete his month on loan to MK Dons with what turned out to be the winning goal in a 2-1 success against Saturday’s opponents Swindon.
Tunnicliffe headed MK Dons into a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute from Peter Leven’s corner and they held on for victory despite Danny Ward pulling a goal back for the Robins in the closing stages.
