Horsham boss keeps faith with Albion keeper

Horsham boss John Maggs insists he is perfectly happy with on-loan Albion keeper Josh Pelling.

The teenager has made mistakes which have led to goals in each of the Hornets’ last two games.

But Maggs, a former goalkeeper himself, still believes he has a fine young goalkeeper at his disposal.

Maggs said: “He has had two poorish games but I know he has a lot of talent.

“When he came to us he had only played something like five games this season but now he is getting a lot of football with us and still training full-time with Albion. If anything I think he is just a little weary at the moment.

“I am perfectly happy with him. He has been schooled the right way and he has been good for us.”

Horsham go into tomorrow’s game at AFC Hornchurch on the back of three straight defeats in the league and their programme is not getting any easier.

Maggs fielded a youthful side in last night’s Brighton Charity Cup game with Chichester which kicked off a run of five games in ten days. After tomorrow, Hornets visit Maidstone on Tuesday and Dartford on Thursday before entertaining Billericay next weekend.

Steve Sargent is unlikely to play tomorrow due to a dead leg and Sam Tucknott is doubtful with a hamstring problem. Maggs, though, has been delighted with new signing Chris Riley.

He said: “Chris looks an outstanding player and he will certainly keep his shirt at right-back tomorrow.”
