New faces can't help Rooks

Lewes remain deep in relegation trouble after a second-half collapse.

Two new players could not help the Rooks as they went down 3-0 at home to Havant and Waterlooville to remain third from bottom in Blue Square south.

Manager Steve Ibbitson handed a start to new start James Fraser, from Eastbourne Borough, and also welcomed back teenage defender Grant Hall after agreeing a loan deal with Albion.

Lewes looked good in the first half without really threatening.

The were the better team until they went behind to a goal from Mustafa Tiryaki in the 67th minute but they then capitulated.

Former Rook Ian Simpemba made it 2-0 six minutes later and Manny Williams wrapped up victory with a third goal.

The only consolation for Lewes was that no team in the bottom five won so they remain seven points clear of safety with nine games remaining.

Perhaps the only hope for Lewes is that with the demise of Chester City and Farsley Celtic the Conference is two teams short. It may be that only four teams are relegated from the regional divisions. If Lewes finish in 20th place they would then have a 50/50 chance of a reprieve.

I can't understand why Lewes keep "looking" at the same old squad players...getting Fraser in cos he has played for Bristol (reserves) ,Eastbourne Borough ( reserves) and also turned out for Eastbourne Town when there are plenty of non league lads who are far better....

there are lots of good players about, thats true, but how many will play for £50 a game? you get what you pay for.. thats why they are going down.. i said it would happen last feb.. take bristol out of frasers history and its non existant.. but it gives the die hard fans a lift.

All those making negative comments should get real. Fans are lucky that there still a Lewes FC. If it wasn't for the tireless and unpaid work done by Ibbo and his assistants the club would have been shut down by the Courts in January. Other clubs talk about managing on a tight budget but I suspect it is still vastly higher to that available at Lewes. Many of the team are still teenagers and still learning - they need support rather than be criticised by others who can probably only aspire to play the game.

club should have gone into admin last feb.. relegation will only mean less money, smaller crowds and juggling the players budget.. i cant see them getting out of this, players will leave when they go down, the young players will go. its a massive ten games coming up.
