An injury-time penalty condemned Worthing to a 2-1 defeat against Folkestone Invicta in today's Ryman League division one south top of the table clash at Woodside Road.
The visitors had taken a 16th-minute lead when Josh Vincent was left unmarked to beat Alan Mansfield from eight yards.
Worthing huffed and puffed but their impressive run, which had seen them win their previous seven Division One south games, looked to be coming to an end as they struggled to test Invicta goalkeeper Jack Delo, although Evan Archibald should have done better with a free header in the 79th minute which he directed wide.
But six minutes from time Jamie Brotherton was fouled by Liam Dickson who was sent off for his protests, having been booked in the first half for a foul.
Brotherton curled the free kick low into the bottom right-hand corner for his 15th goal of the season.
A draw would have been a fair result but deep into stoppage time Folkestone defender Frankie Chappell was tripped by Luke Denton and James Everitt gave Mansfield no chance from the spot.
