Assistant manager Nick Greenwood accused Eastbourne Borough's players of complacency as they let a two-goal lead slip in the crucial relegation clash with Grays Athletic.
Jamie Taylor and debutant Luke Rooney had given Borough a 2-0 lead at half-time but they fell apart after the break as Harlee Deans and Wayne Gray forced a 2-2 draw.
Greenwood said: "We had enough chances in the first half to win the game. Jamie Taylor missed the penalty and Liam had a great opportunity so we could have been three or four ahead.
"I think the players thought it was over at half-time. We tried to warn the players but it didn't work as we never got going in the second half.
"Grays look like they are going down and our players thought they would capitulate but they proved they had a lot of spirit in the second half and it was too much for us."
