Albion friendly abandoned

Albion's friendly against Portimonense in Portugal tonight was abandoned in the second half after a mass confrontation.

The incident was sparked by an off-the-ball clash involving Albion striker Ashley Barnes and Portimonense forward Ivanildo.

Ivanildo chased after Barnes and pushed him following a challenge by the Seagulls' frontman.

All hell then broke loose. Albion boss Gus Poyet was first on the pitch to try to calm things down.

He was then joined by the rest of his players and staff, together with the entire Portimonense squad and bench, but no punches were thrown.

Referee Nuno Guerreiro marched down the tunnel with his assistants.

Albion trailed 2-0 at the time to goals by Pena just before half-time and an explosive shot by Ivanildo after the break.

Oh dear 2-0 down, mass brawl, game abandoned too!
Bodes well for the start of the season.
What a flop of friendly results.
Still we can look forward to Holroyd leading the line up at Swindon, lol.

Whilst the fighting was going on Holroyd ran with the ball towards the empty goal , he shot and tripped over the ball

Almost 9 years to the day since the "friendly" at Longford in Ireland was abandoned at half time! Albion were promoted at the end of the season.

Yeah, I for one was really disappointed with the draw against Sunderland. I mean, if we can't beat a Premiership team then what chance have we got?

Barnes was NOT sent-off but was escorted to the dressing room by Albion back room staff on Poyet's orders following the confrontation while he gathered the rest of the squad in the centre circle.
