Gus Poyet has not ruled out keeping Filipe Morais, despite the on-trial winger’s limited chances in Portugal.
Morais got just 15 minutes of action in two games on the Algarve, from where Poyet and his squad returned last night.
The former Millwall flyer came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland but saw his chances of doing likewise against Portimonense end when the game was abandoned.
Poyet was non-committal on Morais’s chances of securing the return south he craves but said: “I thought he did okay. It’s not just games, it’s training, but it’s not just how he did, it’s what we need, the contract, so many things. We had a busy week. People read ‘Portugal’ and think ‘holiday’ but it was not a holiday. We had ten or 11 training sessions and two games.”
Wales under-21 defender Aaron Morris, released by Cardiff recently, is believed to be on his way to Albion for a trial. The 20-year-old has been trying his luck at Exeter of late.
Albion’s only remaining senior friendly is at home to Aberdeen on Saturday, though the club are sending a young side to face Eastbourne Town at the Saffrons tonight (7.45pm). Andrew Whing is the most senior player likely to feature while Poyet will also take a look at Jack MacFarlane, a 16-year-old released by Southampton and former Brentford keeper Clark Masters, 22.
Meanwhile, former Albion keeper John Sullivan could secure a loan move from Millwall to Yeovil after his performance in a 3-2 friendly victory over Manchester United reserves on Saturday. Free agent Adam Virgo, looking to secure a deal at Huish Park, headed the winner.

I wonder if Gus is still hopefull of Kaz Lua Lua coming but keeping this guy as a 'Plan B'? Mark B.T.Sea suggested he (Lua Lua) was Doncaster bound. Does anyone know any more?

@markbythesea: have you written a post in the last week where you didn't use the phrase "squad is dangerously thin on the ground" ? You seem to flit between genuine insight and reptitive phrase syndrome. At least you haven't mentioned Booker and White much recently... :)

If Elphick gets injured, El Abd will stand in - we all know Gus likes him. If Calderon gets injured then Kishishiev or Hart will go there. More of a worry for Barnes, but the odds are that he WON'T get injured before Murray returns.

Feel slightly disappointed with are transfer activity, not quality, because I think Gus has brought well, but thought a top striker would be here by now and bedded in. Players out, both sold and on long-term loans have put us in credit. Mark b the s is right to bang on about how thin the squad is. In this league at least two pro’s will be out relatively long term injured before xmas
The two young Argentines could prove to be the surprise packages of the coming season for the Albion. Gus & Mauricio are likely to get the best out of them, I just hope they adapt to being a long way from home.

just reading that Watford have bid around half a million for Walsall striker Troy Deeney. You have to wonder where we can go for an experienced striker if that is the price being asked for someone who has promise but is still far from the finished article. No wonder we have been looking abroad when homebased players are so over-valued
