Gus wants Albion united

Gus Poyet wants his Albion squad to unite to beat League One’s big spenders.

And he has taken a light-hearted dig at title favourites Southampton in the process.

Poyet goes into today’s friendly at home to Aberdeen (3pm) still chasing up to four value-for-money additions to his squad and admitting he cannot match the financial muscle of some other League One sides.

He has still made several signings, including that of Inigo Calderon after the Basque right-back initially seemed to be set for Southampton.

Poyet said: “I'm sure there are other teams who will have better individuals. They pay more, they get players we cannot afford.

“But that doesn’t change my style of football or my way of understanding football.

“They are going to have better individuals, I hope we have a better team.”

He added: “Southampton, Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday are the main ones. After, we have got Peterborough, Charlton, Swindon. They will be there because they have been there already.

“Huddersfield signed players who were in the Premiership last year. Not on loan. They signed them.

“Southampton got one of the best right-backs in the division, Frazer Richardson. Now they have got Danny Butterfield.

“So they have got maybe two of the best right-backs in the division, although we have Calderon and he is the best, unluckily for them.”

Lee Hendrie looks unlikely to be uniting with either Albion or Aberdeen. The former Aston Villa man has been linked with both clubs this summer but last night told The Argus he believed there was now no chance of joining either.

High priced and overpaid players don't always make a good team!

Big Spenders Southampton , how frustrating that must be for the creditors who lost hundreds of thousands when they went into administration only two years ago , boring old argument i guess but it doesnt seem to do clubs any harm look at Leeds , personaly i think they should have a cap on transfer fees imposed on them for a number of seasons afterwards , looking at the Albion we cant compete in the transfer market but as a supporter i can hardly moan about the board with the new stadium well on the way i guess we are one of the lucky clubs . In my opinion Albion will play some terrific football this season and i cannot see a struggle ahead but i also cannot see us storming the league, plays offs if we are lucky , would love to be proved wrong mind, i think we will start slowly due to the many new faces which may take time to gell , i just hope the fans can be patient , i think we will finish the season as one of the stronger teams in the division and next season really go for it , heres to looking forward some cracking football and a good season .

In spite of the zillions spent, will Man City win anything this year, er......no.

Will Southampton be League 1 champions, er .................pos
sibly. There is a huge burden of expectation on Pardew ( who has always thought he is better than he is) and he will be shown the door if they have an early wobble which in turn will bring about instability.

Danny's had his good season with his latest club, so Swindon won't make the play-offs.

Sheffield Wed have real internal & financial issues, and you get the impression all is not that well at Charlton.

Peterborough should do well but the Manager may be lacking confidence after his exit from Bristol City and the continuing poor form of his present club as the season drew to a close, so that will be interesting.

I think Yeovil will do well and Walsall. Huddersfield and Plymouth are the ones to look out for, though. Notts County could do well.

You just get the feeling though the Albion are very cohesive at the moment, very settled from Board down to playing staff and that bodes well.

Just need some more strength in depth.

Rougvie

Southampton paid off their creditors in FULL after Liebherr came in, so who exactly lost 'hindreds of thousands'?

Still, lets ignore the facts and carry on...
