Eastbourne Borough's 100% record in pre-season came to an end as they went down 1-0 at home to Southend United.
Borough were overpowered by a big and energetic Southend side in the first half with the League Two outfit deserving their lead at half-time.
Mohsni Bilel made the breakthrough in the 26th minute when he rose above the Borough defence to head home a corner from Louie Soares.
Borough made nine substitutions in the second half and began to put the visitors under pressure with only a fine save from Shrimpers goalkeeper Rhys Evans denying Gary Elphick an equaliser in the 73rd minute.
Borough continue their pre-season build up for the new Blue Square Bet premier campaign at home to Lewes on Tuesday night before travelling to Eastleigh next Saturday.

Nice to see he has started his negative comments about players before the season has started.
Might learn to take a leaf out of other senior reporters summaries. Also try and learn to be positive with young players.
Here's hoping he at least reads this to learn.
Steve Hollis - Reporting was suspect at times but spread himself and failed to get the service to report on.
