Eastbourne Borough have played down talk that Leon Knight is about to join them.

The former Albion striker revealed last weekend he would be training with Borough this week.

But head coach Nick Greenwood says that is not the case and Borough are still making a decision on the 27-year-old.

As a part-time outfit who played on Tuesday evening, the first opportunity for Knight to link up with the Priory Lane club was at last night’s training session.

However, Greenwood said yesterday: “We have had contact from his agent and we are deliberating over our decision but he won’t be training with us (last night).”

Borough have not ruled out adding to their squad but Greenwood is not too fussed whether any business is done before or after the transfer window for permanent signings closes on Tuesday.

He said: “The transfer window is a dramatic thing for the media but you can continue to sign loan players.

“We are always looking. There is scope here to add to the squad but unless we find someone who is better or complements the squad we have here nothing will happen.”

Greenwood was pleased to see Andy Atkin score a hat-trick for the reserves in Wednesday’s abandoned game with Tonbridge Angels.

The match was called off with the pitch waterlogged but Atkin, who has yet to see any first-team action so far this year, sent out a message to Greenwood and boss Garry Wilson that he is ready if required.

Greenwood said: “It was great for Andy and all our substitutes at Histon played in the game.

“They got an hour on the pitch. It wasn’t 90 minutes but it keeps their fitness levels up.”
