Casper Ankergren has warned Albion not to get carried away by the prospect of moving into an automatic promotion place.

The Seagulls will go second if they win their game in hand at Plymouth tonight and can even replace Huddersfield at the top with an unlikely victory by four goals.

But Ankergren insists it is far too early to think about repeating his promotion with Leeds last season after Albion’s “okay” start to the campaign.

The Danish goalkeeper, seeking to complete a hat-trick of clean sheets against Argyle, said: “We have only played six games. There are 40 to go and we shouldn’t think too much about it, just go out and try to win every game and see how far it takes us.

“It’s going to be tough, especially when games are coming thick and fast. That’s when we have to prove we can be up at the top.

“We have to keep doing the basics right, try to get as many points as possible and then I would say around Christmas or January time if we are still up there then we have done well.

“It’s not job done just because we have won three games, drawn two and lost one. It’s an okay start but nothing fantastic.

“There is no reason to run around with our hands above our heads and think that we are champions because we’re definitely not.”

Ankergren is anticipating another testing encounter at Plymouth following Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Carlisle.

“The game was cancelled originally because they have three internationals so they must have some quality,” he said.

“They have just come down from the Championship and kept a lot of players so I expect it to be at least as difficult as the Carlisle game.”
