Peter Brezovan has admitted he can have no complaints about being overtaken as Albion’s No. 1 by Casper Ankergren.

Brezovan makes his first senior appearance since May against Woking in the FA Cup at Withdean today after recovering from a fractured right wrist sustained in pre-season training.

The giant Slovakian, fit since mid-September, has watched from the bench as Albion have stormed eight points clear at the top of League One.

Ankergren has played a big part, keeping four clean sheets in succession and not conceding a goal in open play for more than seven-and-a-half hours.

Brezovan, first choice last season before the arrival of Ankergren in August, gets his chance again today in place of the rested Dane.

“It’s going to be great,” he said. “I’ve been waiting for a few games. It’s just the way it is. Casper has been in great form, so there is nothing to complain about.

“Of course, I would rather have been playing, but we want to be in the Championship and this team is unbelievable to watch.

“I am just proud to be involved, even if I am on the bench at the moment. The atmosphere at the club is great.”

Brezovan, 30, suffered a much longer lay-off with previous club Swindon. “I broke my right bicep bone,” he said. “I’ve got eight screws in it. That was four years ago. This was nothing compared to that one.

“It was under Gus Poyet as well! I played 15 games, then it happened and I was out for nine months.”

Brezovan’s wrist injury has allowed him to concentrate on his footwork and continue the passing pattern from the back, established by Poyet with Ankergren in the team.

“I trust myself when the ball is at my feet,” Brezovan said. “That’s about confidence. You have to be like that the way Gus plays.

“It’s like an 11th player, so if you can use him that is good for the manager.”
