Cook ripe for Cherries
12:47pm Thursday 27th October 2011 in Sport By Andy Naylor
Loan: Steve Cook
Albion defender Steve Cook has been sent out on loan again, this time to Bournemouth.
The 20-year-old defender has linked up with the League One Cherries following stints at Mansfield and Eastbourne Borough last season.
Youth team product Cook made his full debut for Albion in last month's Carling Cup defeat by Liverpool at The Amex, two and a half years after his previous appearance as a substitute at MK Dons.
He trained with fourth-bottom Bournemouth today and could make his debut at Preston on Saturday.

I think Gus hasn't made his mind up about Cooksy yet but perhaps rates him as a genuine prospect (work in progress).
Don't think he'll move permanently but am glad he'll get some vital match time along the coast.
Good luck, Steve!

i thought cookie made his debut under Adams against man city in milk cup three years ago? right back if i remember correctly, with GG and Dunk coming towards a bans, I hope squad is capable, Gus must have a loan lined up? also went to queens road shop, the under 19 game and all available games are sold out till the forest game .. fantastic support for the club. lets hope the crowd show due respect for anthem.
Given Cook's performance against Liverpool, you'd think that another, more experienced, name would be on their way to the Amex, but who can second guess Gus? Not many, it appears.
And yes, you are right he started against Man City.
Good luck to him, hope he gets games and experience.

The following can all play CB:
Greer and Dunk (obviously), plus Vincelot, Jara Reyes, Calderon, Painter and Hall.

Jonathan, why is it mysterious that Gus has signed a player he has been after for months, and who will add something to the squad?

Still not good enough, I'm afraid.
Why not give Bergkamp a game?

Paynter - good in his day but nowhere near the predator he once was. Still not good enough, I'm afraid. Why not give Bergkamp a game?

Whether Paynter is the right option remains to be seen - I have seen all the postings questioning his suitability. The good thing is that with the 2 months loan to January that Gus has plenty of time to assess him.
A gamble yes but maybe a gamble that might pay off. I'm suprised Bergkamp hasnt been given a chance, even if its just half an hour and Caskey too. These fringe players may just take their opportunity with both hands if only they were given the time.
I am rather concerned, as others are, about the potential lack of cover at Centre Back now Cook has gone out on Loan (a good thing since he needs quality game time). Reyes seems to be playing (potentially) in three positions namely Right Back, Midfield and now Centre Back. Good player as he is I don't think he's Superman !
The reassuring thing about both the Paynter and Liptak stories is that the club is addressing the issues on the playing side but not panicing by 'signing' just anyone.
Incidently how about Vincelot in midfield in place of GD this weekend. He knows how to defend and can score goals from midfield - remember he got 12 last year for Dagenham.

we now have Dunk and GG fully fit, GG one card away from a one match ban, and Dunk two cards away from either a two or three match ban. as it would make ten before jan 1st.. we also have vincelote who is in need of a operation? there must surely be one coming in? three centrebacks and 4 keepers?

Perhaps Andy Naylor might be able to provide an update in hs next Q & A session. Still think we need a midfield ball winner although as I mentioned in another posting Vincelot might be an interesting option. After his spectacular tackle against West Ham it might be prudent to keep Reyes in defence,

Impressive number of goals from midfield, that.
Im starting to think that come January we should bid for George Boyd. He'd give us a second option to Vicente in the attacking midfielder ("in the hole") role, therefore providing strength on depth.
As with Vicente, he'd fit the central midfield role in the 3 for our 4-2-3-1 idea.
