Jewell confirms Albion interest in Falkirk gem

Albion's interest in Falkirk defender Murray Wallace has been confirmed by Ipswich, one of their rivals for his signature.

Ipswich chief Paul Jewell said: "We have had a bid accepted by Falkirk for the lad. I spoke to Steven Pressley (Falkirk manager) and he's a lad that we have been watching for a while.

"We face a lot of competition for him. I know Brighton are keen and there are two or three other clubs as well.

"He's got a big game for Falkirk against Celtic on Sunday (Scottish League Cup semi-final) and then he will be coming down to see us. There is a long way to go yet but we are in there fighting."

Sources in Ipswich claim Albion held talks on Thursday with 19-year-old Wallace. He is also set to meet with Huddersfield after Sunday's match.

think about it simply, where is nicer to live? and who can actually defend? expect him to sign for us soon

It also depends if Brighton appeals as a place to live?

The player has to, buy into the ambition of the club, like the style of football and management, must want to move here, and then decide what it is worth to him.

It might balance out that Ipswich would have to tempt him with a higher wage whilst the South Coast is more appealing.

We all know that there are so many outside factors in decision making and it is no different for footballers.

I'm not fussed either way at the mo, Toby may be the player we need.

Retracting the

"Toby may be the player we need"

Wallace is a defender, nothing to do with Toby. Doh

Yes, I too am thoroughly bored of all the endless speculation, rumour and non news!! I believe the best policy is to ignore everything until close of business Tuesday and hope that something good this way comes!! Can't wait for tomorrows game!

Just heard Leon Knight is on his way back to Brighton. Has been playing well in the Northern Irish Premiership and Gus is taking a chance on him. Some football pundit BiffyBoy has is all over twitter, same guy got CMS deal a few days before it happened. Insider I reckon!

There is more chance of two alike snowflakes.
What name will you substitute in your stock paragraph tomorrow for the ubiquitous Biffy Boy tweet?

The cold hard reality as we are currently able to know it appears to be as follows:

Signed - David Gonzales (Colombian (ex-?)international goalie) til end of season....good! More competition for places and could have a future with us

Signed - Ben Dickenson from Conf South promotion hopefuls Dorchester...good! One for development and bright(on) future.

"Solidly linked" - Falkirk LCB Murray Wallace - £300k bid accepted, player has reputedly had talks. He is due elsewhere for the same from other successful bidders before deciding where to go. Sounds a good bet if the PL clubs stay cool on it.

Gonzalo Jara Reyes - highly desired by us (confirmed by Gus)....good if we get him but doubtful as he's back in first team squad at present. Best bet may be loan-to-buy at loan deadline rather than permanent move by Tues evening!

John Tavernier - strongly rumoured. Newcastle FB linked in N'East with loan move...probably conti bench for Reyes.

Dave Kitson - strongly rumoured but apparently non-starter on wages....am not fussed tbh.

Habib Habibou - striker under consideration after relatively successful trial...probably only a contingency for other striker targets.

Sam Vokes - striker. Gus has stated is a possible option (loan?) but nothing concrete to date

Plenty of others linked with less conviction eg Aaron McLean, George Boyd, Michael Owen (snigger)...denied outright by club.

So for me it's a couple of peripheral figures clinched, two or three strong possibles and a number of probable unknown targets, most of whom we won't ever hear of and maybe none of whom will arrive.

It's a difficult juggling act keeping contingency options alive while trying to clinch your better choices. Not easy and for us supporters there's no point getting over-excited or over-irritated as we won't (can't!) know most of what's going on.

If NO-ONE else joins Gonzalez and Dickenson on the books this winter so be it. True it WOULD be disappointing but lets face it not disasterous as any additions wouldn't guarantee anything more than the mid-table safety we are already as good as assured of anyway!

I am too busy getting myself excited over a big cup match and the revenge on the jelly bellies at Smellworst Pork to worry about the mystery matters of the transfer window.

I thought the Wrexham full back that played against us was very quick and looked a promising prospect (sorry , cant remember his name) . Maybe we should keep an eye on him. GG
