Gus fears Noone exit

Wanted man: Noone Wanted man: Noone

Albion boss Gus Poyet fears Craig Noone could still end up at Cardiff.

Chairman Tony Bloom rejected improved bids from the Welshmen for winger Noone on transfer deadline day, believed to have risen eventually to £1.2 million.

Cardiff initially offered only about £450,000 in early of January for the 24-year-old Liverpudlian.

The Seagulls turned down three bids from Norwich for Elliott Bennett in the January 2011 transfer window before the winger joined the newly promoted Premier League club last summer for £1.5 million.

Poyet is wary of a repeat, particularly if Cardiff add to their Carling Cup final appearance with promotion.

They have money to spend, having also failed on Tuesday with a late £3 million bid for Bolton-bound Watford striker Marvin Sordell.

Poyet said: "I think it's quite similar (to Bennett), depending on Cardiff. I listen to so many people on television saying a player is not for sale. That makes me laugh, because if they come in with millions next day he is gone and then they say they couldn't say no.

"Everybody has got a price. It is normally the chairman who decides how high or low that price is.

"I'm really happy he (Noone) is still at the club. I hope that he is going to be here for the next four years. Saying that, it depends on the price."

Meanwhile, Reading manager Brian McDermott has revealed he did not make a move for Albion striker Craig Mackail-Smith last month after discovering the price would be too high.

I think this indicates how far Gus has come as a manager. Really nice to see a transfer window open and close without massive excitment coming from Gus just a cool calm business like attitude and comments.

Gus is correct, Noone has a long contract and ultimately it is down to Chairman Bloom to say NO! Just like Chairman Levy with Modric. Looking forward to todays game, maybe one of the few on in the Championship, welcome back LuaLua, Noone and Vicente.

I wish it was like that, but the strange(according to those who've dealt with him) Levy, just said "No, at any price, and we won't deal with you.

Softy Gus did the more usual everyone has their price.

Levy got it right.

We 100% absolutely must keep our 2 match winners Buckley & Noone, and also give continuity to the squad, rather than being a constant revolving door.

In the Summer TB should tell any other club to sod off over those 2, as we are trying to get the PL asap. TB and the Albion can afford to turn down offers.

Was there any need for this article. It has unsettled me! And I have a brutal hangover which isn't helping, I didn't need to read this!

Please Argus, consider some of your more delicate readers before publishing articles like this on a Saturday morning!!

What is the purpose of this article?
The transfer window is closed, and the theme of the peice seems to be that any of our players could end up anywhere if th price is right.
Scintillating journalism!

If we are promoted to the premier league it will be a moot issue. If not and Cardiff go up we are sure to lose him. The price will be right Nooney will be offered better wages and the chance to play in the highest league.

I agree pablobrowno;

Some will see it as stating the bloomin obvious, others will have heart attacks.

It is funny though, thanks Argus!

another season of disappointment for Cardiff, I think.
Nooney is here for the rest of the campaign, and IMHO speculation until then is pointless.

If Cardiff get promoted, he'll go for 2m. Business is business and it gives the other wide players a chance to play and increase their value in turn.

Players are like cars, you have to know when to keep and when to sell

I don't think I've ever sold a car in my life, they have aways ended up as scrap.

They wanted Noone to help them get promoted, not after they get promoted..

If they make it to the Prem, they will be seeking bigger fish than little o'l Craig .

Hell be with us while now.. Yaber daber !

And from that point, they've been sold on to me!

The point is you sell when the interest is hot not when it cools.

You sell the car before the head gasket goes or the rust shows. You shouldnt hold on too long

You can see they want to flog him provided they get a good price and find another player they can develop and make a similar profit on

Any player that can run at players and move in to the box, give the crowd excitement when they receive the ball, pick up penalties, score the occasional (or more with Buckley) goal is massive. Odd we have so very few shots on target but that's more to do with lack of incisive passes forward from central midfield - but it'll happen and when it does, with Noone with us we'll be absolutely flying and thrilling - let's hope CMS waits for that time
