Anfield trip will not distract us, insists El-Abd

Adam El-Abd says Albion are fully focused on tonight's clash with Millwall Adam El-Abd says Albion are fully focused on tonight's clash with Millwall

Adam El-Abd insists Albion will not allow the FA Cup clash with Liverpool to distract them from their Championship promotion challenge.

El-Abd is a certain starter in defence in Sunday’s fifth round visit to Anfield, as Joe Mattock and Gonzalo Jara Reyes are both Cup-tied.

His place at centre half against Millwall at The Amex tonight is threatened by Lewis Dunk’s availability after illness but, whether he plays or is on the bench, El-Abd will be putting the attraction of Anfield out of his mind.

He said: “The league is our priority. The Cup is a nice bonus ball but it’s not our main focus. It will be a great day out at Liverpool but all our focus is on tonight and three points is the aim.

“It’s always going to be tough, as every game is. They are a big, strong team but we feel if we impose ourselves on the game and play our football we’ve got more than enough to win.”

Wonder if we will see Tano at Anfield? Bound to be loads of competition for a start next Sunday.

we need goals tonight. we need a (surprisingly rare) comfortable goal margin, and start improving our goal difference.

i have got superstitious feeling however that tonight might be an anticlimactic draw, followed by great performance at Anfield, and result at Hull. remember our last promotion push to premiership - 2-2 draw in FA Cup at Liverpool, narrowly lost at home 3-2 in replay (Dalglish was the manager from memory). then we pushed on to play-offs. may history repeat itself (save for result in play-off final!).

If we win tonight and Saints lose at West Ham we are within 4 points of Saints and possibly second spot .Who would have thought it a few weeks ago.Come on Seagulls.

...and the performance (of said play-off final!). I loved that season, as although I had been supporting Brighton for a few years by then, the things that happened in that season are my earliest clear memories of being a fan. I was gutted after that replay at the goldstone - 2-1 up at half-time of extra time but then lost 3-2, Steve McMahon wasn't it? I think John Barnes was wearing tights that night too.

Got to say good luck to the boys tonight and thanks to Sky TV for showing the foreign game and NO British game because there is no Prem football in the UK today.

Can I make a plea for Sundays game? Please, PLease, Please, lets wear our PROPER Club Colours of Blue and White! We are Brighton and Hove Albion, with proud traditional colours of Blue and White - this season weve changed to that awful "one season wonder" green and black too often when no colour clash is apparent, eg, Wrexham, Forest ..... Traditional colours for Big Games Please (where possible obviously). I hate this modern trend of switching when there is no need. Are we not PROUD of our Club Colours??

Im going to repost this again tomorrrow, and all week if need be, until somebody in the Club sees it ! :)

Will Buckley has won the player of the round for his performance against Newcastle. Part of his prize is he gets to go to the final, but he might be there anyway... ;0)

I have lived in USA for 40 years and listen to every game at the super new stadium. Have so many memories of watching at the Goldstone from age of 7 (watched Tommy Lawton and Raich Carter play!) - nothing more would excite me more than to see another run to Wembley, but watching the Premiership League on tele every week it seems unrealistic to imagine Albion can survive if they get promoted now. By all means aim for the playoffs but let Gus build up this teams experience and cash - and let him become a Premiership manager when the time is right rather than see him have an offer from Spurs or someone else who he will be unable to turn down. For those that remember the last venture when it was Division 1 was a huge let down. I still sing Good old Sussex by the Sea when I see them play - Will be live on tele here on Sunday.
