Albion are poised to complete the signing of Manchester City's Ivorian midfielder Abdul Razak on loan for the rest of the season.
And The Argus understands he will be joined at The Amex by Israeli team-mate Gai Assulin, an attacking midfielder/winger.
The double deal is in place now that the Premier League leaders have players back from the African Nations Cup and will be confirmed later today or tomorrow.
Poyet said of 19-year-old Razak: "We were waiting. We were very close in the beginning of January. The African Cup didn't help us at all but I hope that everything is going to go through and we can do it today.
"We were following him when he went on loan to Portsmouth. He has the type of characteristics of a midfielder I want to bring, the strength, the power, thetechnical ability, box to box, so he has got plenty of things we don't have."
Assulin, 20, is an Israeli under 21 international who played for Barcelona before joining City.

Gives me the willies every time we sign a player with recent injury problems. Someone to keep Vicente company maybe. Anyway, well done Gus (I hope)

My only gripe is this - I dont really like the loan system, filling your team with players who are not really yours... its ok if you have one, maybe two, but we are now likely to be fielding Gonzales and Vokes and Mattock and Razak and the other fella ... FIVE loanees? Im a traditionalist - its all a bit artificial and I disagree with it fundamentally. Not a fan of this sort of thing - I'll leap around as usual when they score of course, but I wish they were Brighton players.

looks like Razak is a loan for this season and maybe even repeated next year but my guess would be Assulin is a loan with a view to a buy on the assumption that one of our current crop of speedster wingers will get snaffled up in the summer. Nothing like a bit of forward planning - how much more professional have we become!

The loan system is the future of football to compensate for the players excessive wages that have put the future of many clubs in the balance.
As mentioned above by piogold, the advantage is that you can see how a player fits in rather than make a massive mistake like Torres and being stuck with him.
Try before you buy!

Assulin was expected to be taken into the 1st team at barcelona with busquets as pep guardiola took over but a bad injury that year cost him. One of city's highest rated youngsters. Anyone else thinking were getting closer to what swansea did in their first season in the championship before they went up last year... scott sinclair/ gai assulin. Yes Buckley is good but hardly comparable to bennett who played in the hole last season and got more than 20 assists. He was the difference between us and the rest last season. Two very good players though, you wouldnt compare a wesley sneider to an arjen robben, both very important however!

Also a shame for the youngsters like JFC and and Toby who presumably will fade out of contention now even though they have done well. On the basis that we appear to have got another winger in, you would have thought we might have sold Nooney although glad we didn't. Seem to remember Gus saying he did not like too many loan players in the squad but I misheard him.......
