Seagulls swoop for Man City duo

Abdul Razak Abdul Razak

Albion are poised to complete the signing of Manchester City's Ivorian midfielder Abdul Razak on loan for the rest of the season.

And The Argus understands he will be joined at The Amex by Israeli team-mate Gai Assulin, an attacking midfielder/winger.

The double deal is in place now that the Premier League leaders have players back from the African Nations Cup and will be confirmed later today or tomorrow.

Poyet said of 19-year-old Razak: "We were waiting. We were very close in the beginning of January. The African Cup didn't help us at all but I hope that everything is going to go through and we can do it today.

"We were following him when he went on loan to Portsmouth. He has the type of characteristics of a midfielder I want to bring, the strength, the power, thetechnical ability, box to box, so he has got plenty of things we don't have."

Assulin, 20, is an Israeli under 21 international who played for Barcelona before joining City.

Exciting news!! Razak deal has been rumoured for a while once Toure returned from african nations but Gai Assulin looks interesting, it was rumoured Barnsley wanted him earlier in the season but were put off by injury and fitness concerns, so hopefully he has sorted them out, he hasnt played a game for Man City first team, so could be a gamble?

looks like Razak is a loan for this season and maybe even repeated next year but my guess would be Assulin is a loan with a view to a buy on the assumption that one of our current crop of speedster wingers will get snaffled up in the summer. Nothing like a bit of forward planning - how much more professional have we become!

You're absolutely right! When you think where we were just 2 or 3 years ago and where we are now, it is beyond belief that some people are not happy with where we are! Maybe they've just started coming along this season? I cannot think of any other explanation!

My only gripe is this - I dont really like the loan system, filling your team with players who are not really yours... its ok if you have one, maybe two, but we are now likely to be fielding Gonzales and Vokes and Mattock and Razak and the other fella ... FIVE loanees?
Im a traditionalist - its all a bit artificial and I disagree with it fundamentally.

The loan system is the future of football to compensate for the players excessive wages that have put the future of many clubs in the balance.

As mentioned above by piogold, the advantage is that you can see how a player fits in rather than make a massive mistake like Torres and being stuck with him.

Try before you buy!

Great news ! As others have said this is a clear demonstration of the club's ambition. I assume neither is Cup tied, please correct me if I am wrong.
Interesting comment Farside re Assulin and getting a replacement in (or at least having a close look at before buying) prior to someone leaving. I wonder what might happen to Noone this summer. Alternatively is Assulin coming to 'job share' with Vicente - both are "attacking midfielders/wingers"
.
Delighted to hear about Razac. Judging from Poyet's comments he is the type of midfielder he has been looking for and our strikers, CMS in particular, should benefit from.
With this double signing is Poyet still in the market for another striker that he indicated he might get as a result of Hoskins having gone out on Loan ?
Any thoughts Farside, Cabin fever, Hovite, Seagulljoe, Albion fan in London, Saraman, Dr Baldhead or MBTS (long time no hear MBTS are you OK - I for one have missed your postings).

I think with the extra money we have and are guaranteed by getting this far in the F.A.Cup it has enabled the club to spend some more on bolstering the squad.Next season will be a whole new ball game with better deals for the club from Sponsors and other extra revenue from gate receipts.I cant see many not renewing their season tickets.Even if they do they will soon be snapped up.

I'm certainly renewing my season ticket unless we go on a losing streak in which case I will gradually go to less and less games, moan incesantly on here and then not bother renewing and just attend games when we start winning again. If things get really bad I might go and support the team near where I live, Crystal Palace. Or Crawley.

Hovite says...
2:43pm Thu 16 Feb 12

ballantrrae; I think to last the season with 46 games, plus cups and replays.

Totalled with injuries, suspensions, loss of form or needing a rest to prevent further injury to an injury.

We probably need 3 options to each position to cover the above.

If a player is only used 20 - 30 times, it is still a good season for them. It isn't really just about the games they play, it is about the mentality of the team as a whole and how they train with each other.

This also lengthens players careers by not playing through injury.

Giggs is a good example of this, just waiting until he is needed.

With 7 subs available on Sunday this is surely down to good economics... If 2 of the squad only have to come from Manchester it will cut down on travel and accommodation overheads. Even in these heady times we must look after the pennies. On a more serious not Saraman I entirely agree. If true then there are guys like JFC who will be looking at developments here with more than a passing (excuse the pun) interest.

I see where you're coming from JM, but presumably they will be down here anyway signing contracts/having a medical/meeting their new team mates?

Plus how much difference is two seats on a bus and hotel room going to make?

I guess players will have their noses out of joint, but competition for places means working harder in training and then better performances on the pitch. From a SQUAD, as opposed to an individuals, point of view that must be a good thing.

While I agree that Bennett played in the hole, he also played on the wing and yes, he had a fantastic amount of assists, you can't deny that Buckley has been the difference in quite a number of games! Personally I think he could easily slot into that position if asked and again personally I believe that Buckley is a better player!

These two sound like excellent additions to the squad. We've certainly got a lot of midfielders and wingers. It will be very interesting to see what Gus's first choice midfield is over the next couple of months - and who drops down the pecking order. We have been lacking creativity in midfield and hopefully these two loan signings will help address that.
