Rusk is new Albion youth team coach

The Argus: Simon Rusk Simon Rusk

Albion have appointed Simon Rusk as the club's new youth team coach.

The 30-year-old former Scottish under-18 international joins the club from Crawley Town, where he was centre of excellence coach, and will work with the club's scholarship players.

Albion's head of football operations David Burke commented, "A number of the staff and myself had been aware of Simon since he retired from playing last year and became centre of excellence coach at Crawley.

"He is an enthusiastic young coach with new ideas and excellent coaching credentials, but most importantly he fits the profile of the type of coach we wanted to recruit."

Rusk began his career with his hometown team Peterborough United, and also played for Boston United, Northwich Victoria, York City and Crawley. He retired from playing at the end of the 2010/11 to take up the coaching role with Crawley.

In his new role, Rusk will oversee the development of the club's scholars, and manage Albion's under-18 team, reporting to the club's head of youth football Martin Hinshelwood.

Interesting. Sounds like this is a "spotted for potential" type appointment.

The club are certainly being very proactive at the moment and things are moving on apace.

Welcome to Brighton's bright Blooming future, Simon!

Simon Rusk, eh? I trust there will be no teething problems with this appointment, then...

The club is certainly gearing up for a solid, professional, and hopefully high-level future. It still takes some believing seeing all the improvements and developments happening in recent times.

I thought that, then saw something about him being made director of the academy?

If true, I guess that opening provided the chance for Simon to come onboard.

Crawley to Brighton is a huge jump, would have expected someone with more experience to bring on our young players,at least with Championship knowledge
