Bewilderment and frustration continue to flourish as I ride the Gus Bus. Bridcutt hasn't had a decent game yet since he was moved forward. And for why? - to accommodate someone who simply isn't quite good enough to play the quick short triangles that Gus (and we) want to see. And it's all very well playing triangles at the back but when the base of your diamond can really only play it square or backwards too often Greer and El-Abd eventually end up punting it up to our short lone centre forward who's probably getting even more frustrated and bewildered than I am. Please tell me that Dicker and Assulin will be fit soon Gus? And until they are play Vokes up front if we're playing just the one - at least he has a fighting chance of winning those high balls that we eventually end up playing. Or clone Vicente - what a truly wonderful player he is. And could we try our Colombian keeper? Sexy Pete looks almost as nervous as I feel whenever the ball's in the box. And where's Razak? And JFC? Midfield Gus. The current version is not top 6 material. But hey-ho I know nothing - cos I'm one of those who can't fathom out just what that special ingredient it is that Ash brings to the team - falling over? Not quite winning headers? Passing backwards? Whining? Not quite making tackles? Running around a lot with no apparent purpose? Off to football numpty school for me. Remedial lessons required I fear.......
Albion chief Gus Poyet has told critics of Ashley Barnes they do not understand football.

Poyet has rotated record buy Craig Mackail-Smith and loan signing Sam Vokes in recent matches, while Barnes has been an almost permanent fixture in the team.

He has started 11 of the last 12 games and is expected to feature again as a deep-lying striker at play-off rivals Blackpool today.

Poyet said of Barnes’ detractors: “They don’t understand football. They just watch when somebody touches the ball and somebody has a shot and football is not only about that.

“It’s about much more, what you do for the team, how you move with the ball, without the ball, how hard you work."

Poyet: No excuses

Gus Poyet admitted Albion were well below their best as they lost 3-1 at Blackpool today.

Kevin Phillips scored twice as the Seagulls were hustled to a first league defeat of 2012 after going ahead early on through Joe Mattock.

Boss Poyet said: "We didn't perform, we weren't at our best, we weren't making good decisions, we didn't win a header and they scored.

"It wasn't us. There is no drama, no excuses.

"Too many players didn't perform at their best and that is difficult to cope with.

"We needed to be brave and make decisions and we didn't.

"There is no one to blame apart from ourselves."

Albion lost Gonzalo Jara Reyes to a straight red card on 57 minutes after he fouled Keith Southern.

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway agreed the Chile star was unlucky to go.

Holloway said: "He tried to win the ball, was a little bit late, Keith didn't make a meal of it, he was only a little bit hurt. In the light of that, it's a yellow."
