Barnes: Let's do it all again

Ashley Barnes admits he faces a “massive” 2012-13 campaign.

But Albion’s top scorer will not be forcing the pace in the quest for a new contract off the back of his performances this season.

Barnes’ current deal runs until next summer and he is ready to prove himself all over again when the Seagulls return to Championship action next term.

The 22-year-old looked forward to 2012-13 and admitted: “It’s a massive season for me “I need to start well and get goals to earn myself a new contract. That’s something I will think about later on. I’ve still got a year left.”

Barnes agreed an extension to his current contract last summer.

He added: “I want to earn a new one of course but I will concentrate on scoring as many goals as possible first.”

Meanwhile Gonzalo Jara Reyes is facing a summer free of international action after the Chilean federation opted not to reduce his ten-game ban.

Jara Reyes and four colleagues were found guilty of breaking a squad curfew before a pair of World Cup qualifiers in November.

They were banned by their federation for ten games but told they would be considered for a pardon after five games.

Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, who offered a public apology for his actions, has been recalled but Jara Reyes, Wigan wideman Jean Beausejour and two colleagues have been told they must sit out five more games.

That means the West Bromwich player currently on loan to the Seagulls cannot be called up again until October.
