Albion will kick-off with midweek cup clash

Albion's first game will be in the Carling Cup Albion's first game will be in the Carling Cup

ALBION’S first match next season will be a midweek Carling Cup tie.

The Seagulls will launch their 2012-13 campaign in the week commencing August 13.

The break with tradition has been caused by a delayed start to the league programme due to the London Olympics.

Albion’s opening fixture in the Championship is not until August 18.

The Seagulls will add friendly visits to Dagenham and Redbridge and Dorchester to their involvement in the opening of Maidstone’s new stadium.

The Dagenham and Dorchester matches form part of the deals which brought versatile Frenchman Romain Vincelot and development squad striker Ben Dickenson to The Amex.

Albion will not be returning to Portugal for a pre-season tour at the end of July. An alternative European destination has been arranged, with details to be announced by the club shortly.

The Seagulls are unlikely to enter a reserve league next season. They are poised to concentrate instead on friendlies against quality opposition for the development squad.

Their closing Combination League game, rained off recently at Lancing, will not be played as opponents Cheltenham cannot fulfill the fixture.

Those reputedly "in the know" are now suggesting Seville for pre-season. Also rumoured that Liam Bridcutt is signing a contract extension..... now THAT would be good news

Apparently the pre-season is going to be somewhere that befits such a terrific team and reflects on the effort, performances and quality of football.
Isle of Wight ferry booked then!

We are indeed of to Germany I think the date was May 26th. Only for a couple of low profile 'kick abouts'. I work at Virgin Active where a few of the players go, and I was speaking to Tommy Elphick and Matt Sparrow and they said they were heading out to Germany for a week or so just as a team warm down break... dunno what that really involves but anyway!

It is probably both, a warm down week in May in Germany does not mean that there won't be a pre-season in Seville.

Better not be! I'm still disinfecting my clothes and shoes from our last visit!

Like the sound of either Germany OR Spain. Could be tempting, finances allowing.

Wonder if a Seville trip would include friendlies at either or both of Sevilla and Betis?

The half time oranges will taste just lovely! ;0)

Just watched the Chelsea and Liverpool match. I'm not really a football fan, prefer Rugby myself and I certainly don't support any team what so ever, but it made me realise that B & H have a
long long way to go if they are aiming for that standard of play! I can't see any promotion happening with their current lot of players.

You are right, - we are unlikely to go up without substantial team strengthening in the close season, but we are appreciative of the current squad for taking us this far, and I expect quite a few to feature in the next campaign.
It will not be necessary to Play to Chelsea and Liverpools standards to achieve promotion, we just need to be better than 21 Championship sides.
They use an oval ball in rugby don't they. What's that all about?
