Albion will kick-off with midweek cup clash
9:00am Friday 4th May 2012 in Sport By Andy Naylor
Albion's first game will be in the Carling Cup
ALBION’S first match next season will be a midweek Carling Cup tie.
The Seagulls will launch their 2012-13 campaign in the week commencing August 13.
The break with tradition has been caused by a delayed start to the league programme due to the London Olympics.
Albion’s opening fixture in the Championship is not until August 18.
The Seagulls will add friendly visits to Dagenham and Redbridge and Dorchester to their involvement in the opening of Maidstone’s new stadium.
The Dagenham and Dorchester matches form part of the deals which brought versatile Frenchman Romain Vincelot and development squad striker Ben Dickenson to The Amex.
Albion will not be returning to Portugal for a pre-season tour at the end of July. An alternative European destination has been arranged, with details to be announced by the club shortly.
The Seagulls are unlikely to enter a reserve league next season. They are poised to concentrate instead on friendlies against quality opposition for the development squad.
Their closing Combination League game, rained off recently at Lancing, will not be played as opponents Cheltenham cannot fulfill the fixture.
