Vicente talks have been positive says Poyet
5:00pm Monday 21st May 2012 in Sport By Brian Owen
Albion have a good chance of keeping Vicente
Gus Poyet is convinced Albion still have “a great chance” of bringing Vicente back for a second season.
The Seagulls boss believes his efforts to get the Spain international fully fit will help persuade him to extend his stay at The Amex.
Club doctor Helge Riepenhof, brought in from Germany in the latter stages of the season, masterminded a fitness plan which had Vicente firing on all cylinders for the run-in.
Poyet hopes that could play a part in the player’s decision.
The Albion boss told The Argus: “Vicente is away but we are in contact with him and I think there is a big possibility he will be with us next season “The situation is very clear. There are no issues. Everything is all right.
“It’s just trying to make sure that all parties are happy with the situation.”
Vicente has kept out of the media since returning to Spain last month.
But Poyet accepts teams in England and overseas will have monitored his performances in the Championship.
He said: “I suppose he could get offers but I think we have a great option because he has been playing a lot for us which hasn’t happened in the past.
“Hopefully he puts that into consideration as well.”
Albion were linked with Dundee United’s out-of-contract playmaker Danny Swanson last week.
Poyet responded: “Why would I sign him when I can have the best attacking midfielder in the Championship?
“He is still our player until June 30 and we have a great chance of keeping him.”

Birmingham would stand a better chance of signing him (on loan last season) but if Vicente stays for another season then it would be easier to sign quality players!

Owen? No thanks. Washed up. Trotter, Boyd, Gabbidon, Heaton, Centre midfield powerhouse? YES! Up the Albion!
Trotter, Boyd etc are good calls though.

Positive vibes from Gus.

He obviously worked wonders with Vicente and might be able to have similar success with others.
Bearing in mind Poyet's comment a few weeks back that Vicente's staying would probably depend on who we sign I am not expecting to hear that he (Vicente) has signed on again until we have made 2 or 3 quality signings especially a midfielder to play alongside Vicente, Bridcutt, Buckley/LuaLua etc.
It therefore becomes even more important that players join before preseason not just to'bed in' but to help persuade Vicente to stay before his contract expires 30 June.

I'm sure Poyet and Vicente will be very happy at which ever club they both end up at.
B. Likes football but doesn't support the club.
C. Low IQ and questionable sense of humour.
D. High opinion of self worth and probably a jobsworth...
Got it! You're a steward aren't you!!!

It has been said before, but i feel it warrents saying again; Vicente will be the most important signing of the season. Now that people have seen him in the flesh shirt sales and Vicente related merchandise would go through the roof. His retention would also ecourage other quality players to join the Brighton revolution. Viva Vicente!
We don't retain Vicente's services unless there are quality signings.
The quality signings won't materialise unless Vicente has signed a new contract.

I see QPR have released 3 or 4 good players that would be be worth looking at: Shittu, Gabbidon, Fitz Hall and Agyemang. Not sure if they are better than what we have already.
I hope this summer, Gus manages to bring in the players needed to support a 4-4-2 formation week in week out. I think we need to see that working to get the best out of the players we have.
I see the rumours about Liam Trotter are gathering pace. Let's hope they are true!
