Ex-FA chief joins Albion
6:30pm Monday 28th May 2012 in Sport
Paul Barber was previously commercial director for the Football Association
Albion have appointed Paul Barber as the club’s new chief executive.
The former Football Association commercial director and Tottenham Hotspur executive director arrives with a wealth of experience, both from the football and business sectors.
He will begin in his new role on June 18.
Barber said, “I am delighted to be joining such an ambitious and well-run club, with such a dedicated owner and board of directors.
“The club has made great progress on and off the pitch, and I am looking forward to expanding on what has already been achieved by the club and its staff in moving from Withdean to the excellent Amex Stadium.”
The 45-year-old spent the past two years as CEO at Vancouver Whitecaps, leading the club's transition to Major League Soccer, and two stadium moves.

There seems to be something about the letter "B" on the executive side of the club - Bloom, Burke and now Barber...
I agree with MBTS and Alan Skinner that all we need now are a few quality signings although I am hoping for 5 perhaps even 6.
Specifically a central midfielder, two full backs, a striker, another midfielder/striker (like Assulin but not necessarily him) and a goalkeeper.
Does anybody know what the latest number for season ticket sales is ? The last figure I saw mooted was 21,000.

Maybe the number of departures will increase when some who are under contract are "made available" for transfer. Spot on Mark, the right four or five additions will turn us into genuine promotion candidates, all very exciting and will help us get all those season tickets sold.

All we need now are some great new signings and the cherry on top of the cake would be a new manager.

Best news I have ever heard and this is the happiest time that I have been a Palace supporter as I may now get an increase in my hourly pay whilst serving Albion fans from a kiosk.............

Appears to be an excellent appointment.

Pleased that I'm not the only one who thinks we need 2 class fullbacks. Painter & Calde cannot defend against classy & pacey Championship widemen, but it seems taboo to not want Painter & Calde in the first 11.
Calde is great on the ball, so perhaps he can fit in elsewhere at stages of games?

Clear out some of the dead wood and lets make some decent signings.
Loads of good players being released all over europe so lets hope we see some of these soon.
Lets also hope Vincete stays as i feel he will be crucial to us doing well this season.

MrHove wrote:Yes as I have said before the amount of players that will be looking for clubs is on the increase. There are some brilliant players in France Didier Drogba played for Guingamp in Brittany(which is where I live) and was sold for £80,000 I think it was. Lorient have a good team as well they have some sort of deal with Arsenal with player loans.By the end of next week I hope we will be hearing about new players arriving.
never heard of the guy but his CV looks good.

Mr Hove, he was the FA's Spin Doctor (sorry communications) and Commercial/ Marketing man with Adam Crozier. First job was dealing with Keegan's resignation, then Sven and Ulrika and then the 2006 World Cup bid fiasco. Also charged with massively increasing the FA's income by 400%. Be careful what you wish for Albion fans. Expect to have every source of income squeezed out of you through ticket price hikes, shirts sales etc whilst demand is high and the good times are rolling.

still a few decent coaching staff short for the academy, but they will come.
We just need to sign 4 -5 players... what i find amazing is how few players were released!
