Poyet is ready to get moving - at Albion

Gus Poyet Gus Poyet

Gus Poyet was last night anticipating a key month of recruitment for Albion as the latest squall of speculation linking him to the Premier League showed signs of abating.

Poyet believes the transfer market will spring into life in June as clubs and players sort out contractual issues.

And he shrugged off suggestions that he could be wheeling and dealing on behalf of Swansea City, having been favourite to take over at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Swansea were last night given permission to talk to Wigan assistant manager Graeme Jones, who previously filled the same role for them alongside Roberto Martinez.

Poyet is believed to have been on Swans’ shortlist to replace Brendan Rodgers, who is heading to Liverpool.

As is club policy, Albion have declined to comment on suggestions that another club were reportedly keen on their manager.

However they are not believed to be particularly worried about the situation.

Poyet, meanwhile, has his sights set on preparing his Seagulls squad for the Championship.

He has yet to make a signing in the current close-season and said: “There are too many things going on at the moment with too many clubs.

“Things happen with players who have got options and they need to negotiate but we will see.

“I’m okay, I’m not bothered. It’s expected.

“Sometimes you get the option to sign two or three straight away and sometimes you need to wait.

“At the moment we are okay. We are coming into June and normally in June everything starts moving.

“Not many people are signing anywhere yet.”

Poyet is likely to be linked with the seemingly imminent vacancy at Norwich City, who look likely to lose Paul Lambert to Aston Villa.

Ian Holloway at Blackpool could come into the running for the Carrow Road position having, like Poyet, been an early pacesetter in the betting for the Swansea job.

Holloway is keen to get back into the top flight and it is believed Blackpool would not stand in his way if an offer came in.

Poyet is currently in South America but, asked if he was aware he had been the bookies’ fancy to move to Swansea, replied: “I know everything that’s going on in football.”

He added: “Nothing has changed in my life. I am in Uruguay relaxing with my family.”

Hints of an impending 'rumour' perhaps? Doesn't sound as though Gus appreciated the call too much. Starting to feel a bit sorry for the Argus here. Does anyone else suspect that Barber is a body double for AE'A?

I would be offended if I was called whilst on Holiday unless it was an Emergency.I am sure the list of 140 players being released by Premiership clubs would have been sent to Him if requested.

The key question as to when any new players might be signed is when is Poyet returning from holiday ?
I imagine Poyet would want to meet any potential new recruit before they sign and vice versa.
A second question the answer to which might indicate the size of Poyet's recruitment budget is how many season tickets have been sold. The last figure I saw being mentioned was 21,000 does anybody like MBTS have any further intelligence on this ?

But to be serious if we could get him and use from the bench even for 30 or 40 minutes he may be turned into a super sub!

Now you're saying you wish Poyet would go.

There is obviously as much chance of that as you going!

This article shows that Gus is totally focused on taking the Albion forward to greater heights. He has said before that it would take something really special to tempt him away and I don't think any of the current jobs on offer fit the bill. If future plans come off then Norwich City might, but at the moment the only advantage they have is already offering Prem League footO, I am sure Gus sees his best opportunity to make his name is with the Seagulls, with the fantastic backing of TB, and our great fans. He is moving nowhere.

Many thanks Captain H.
Based on 22,500 Season ticket sales to date, Poyet should have a good budget. I look forward to hearing about some new signings from around 6/7 June onwards.
Still hope Vicente stays and most of any new recruits are on board before preseason especially a central midfielder.

Grant Holt is unsettled at Norwich. They won't give him a 3 year deal because he's 31 LOL. No wonder Lambert left. Must be on Championship wages so give him a 3 or 4 year deal and I think he'll drop a division and sign. At his age its all about the money and security

Good spot - am a little concerned by the interest in Calderon. Pick of the week could be Green at WHU... If he's prepared for another season in the championship... West Ham have announced he is free to go - too good to pass by!
